Purpose of the Role
The Finance Clerk provides day-to-day support to the Finance team through accounts payable, document verification, data entry, and payment processing tasks. This position is essential in ensuring the financial integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the Agency's accounting operations.
Operating in alignment with organizational policy, collective agreement provisions, and Indigenous values of stewardship, this role supports the efficient use of financial resources that serve the wellbeing of children, families, and communities across Treaty 9 territory.
Core Responsibilities
1. Accounts Payable and Data Entry
Enter and code invoices into accounting software in accordance with agency and audit standards
Prepare payment requisitions and ensure proper documentation, approvals, and authorizations
Verify vendor information and perform routine checks for accuracy and compliance
Support EFT, cheque processing, and remittance tracking
2. Financial Recordkeeping and Reconciliation
Maintain accurate records of processed transactions, scanned documents, and payment logs
Assist in month-end and year-end reconciliations and provide supporting documentation for audits
Track staff reimbursements, vendor payments, and recurring expenses across programs
3. Communication and Support
Respond to inquiries from vendors, staff, and supervisors regarding payments, receipts, and timelines
Coordinate with other administrative departments to resolve billing or documentation issues
Support training for staff regarding payment processes, forms, and expense submission requirements
4. Team and Agency Participation
Attend team meetings, cross-department planning sessions, and seasonal agency reviews
Support finance team data collection for reports, funding reconciliations, and ministry submissions
Contribute to a respectful, accurate, and organized office environment
Required Qualifications and Experience
Certificate or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent lived/professional experience
Experience in accounts payable or financial administration roles, preferably in a nonprofit or Indigenous organization
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
High degree of accuracy, organization, and confidentiality in financial recordkeeping
Equivalency will be considered. Familiarity with First Nations funding streams, ISC reporting, or Indigenous-led service organizations is an asset.

Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License
Ability to travel occasionally for training or audit-related duties if needed
Compliance with all Agency policies, Collective Agreement, and financial control procedures
