Field Telecom Subject Matter Exper

t to help our client optimize their telecommunications infrastructure supporting field operations. This role will encompass a comprehensive assessment of current assets, risks, and opportunities, and drive the development of a resilient, cost-effective future-state telecom model aligned with business and regulatory needs.

Must be local to CALGARY and the surrounding area

, as this position involves a hybrid work arrangement with some in-office presence required

Key Responsibilities:



Inventorying existing field telecom assets, including private fiber, microwave links, satellite, cellular, and carrier-provided systems Gathering input from operations, IT/OT, engineering, and field teams to identify pain points, especially related to unplanned outages or service degradations Understanding relevant regulatory drivers affecting telecom operations Conducting risk assessments for single points of failure, limited coverage, and cyber vulnerabilities Benchmarking current systems and costs against industry best practices and peers Prioritizing risks by their impact on safety, operations, and compliance, and modeling disruption scenarios (fiber cuts, tower outages, satellite failures) to test system resilience Defining a future-state telecom architecture including redundancy models aligned with operational, safety, and regulatory objectives Developing a phased roadmap with detailed scope, sequencing, dependencies, resource needs, governance, ownership, and KPIs


Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements:



Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline Minimum 10 years of experience in field telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optics, microwave, satellite, cellular, and carrier systems Proven expertise in inventorying, assessing, and optimizing telecom assets supporting field operations Strong knowledge of telecommunications risk assessment, including single points of failure, coverage limitations, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities Experience conducting stakeholder engagement across operations, IT/OT, engineering, and field teams to identify pain points and operational challenges Familiarity with relevant regulatory drivers and compliance requirements affecting field telecom operations Skilled in benchmarking telecom systems and costs against industry best practices and peers Ability to develop future-state telecom architectures with redundancy and resilience models aligned to operational, safety, and regulatory objectives Experience creating phased roadmaps, governance models, KPIs, and facilitating cross-functional collaboration, including supply chain and change management Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills to drive modernization initiatives

Other Skills & Experience:



Certifications in telecom technologies or project management (e.g., PMP, CCNA, Fiber Optic Certification) Strong understanding of operational technology (OT) networking and integration
