4025 InnoTech Alberta is seeking a Field Technologist for the Environmental Services team to provide support in executing a full range of field activities and initiatives. This includes, recruitment, training, supporting the activities of summer field staff and contributing to safe operating procedures. This position is also responsible for participating in monitoring activities, maintaining field data, field gear and other technical equipment for biological sampling.

InnoTech Alberta works collaboratively with Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI), an arms-length, value-neutral, scientific organization that measures and reports on the health of Alberta's Biodiversity. The ABMI conducts world-class biodiversity monitoring of more than 2000 species and habitats throughout Alberta.

Areas of responsibility will include (but not limited to) the following:



Actively participates and contributes to the planning of projects and logistics of field data collection. Support field staff in a variety of field conditions (e.g. remote locations, extreme weather conditions, often with limited accessibility). Provides feedback on new hires; assists with training. Theoretical and practical instruction of science-based protocols, safe operating procedures and hazard assessments. Participate in renewal of safe operating procedures and hazard assessments. Equipment maintenance and modification. Integration and operationalization of new technology and new protocols in the field program. Conducting field work when required Participate in logistical considerations associated with large-scale, province-wide field work Preparing materials and information for the following field season Works with other field operations staff to ensure that all safety training is complete before field operations begin. Assists in the training, keep up training certifications for All Terrain Vehicles (ATV), Bear Awareness, Agro, Chainsaw Safety, and Flat-water Canoeing.

Qualifications;



2 year Technical Diploma in biology, natural resources, wildlife, forestry or related field More than 1 year related technical experience Previous related field work experience Ability to communicate effectively Problem solving and decision-making skills Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills Ability to work in independently and as part of a team Ability to endure long days, challenging conditions, and rigorous fieldwork Experience with some or all of the following: GPS, compass, navigation, 4X4, ATV, aerial image interpretation, working around helicopters Intermediate computer proficiency of Microsoft Office.
