Field Technologist Fenestration Systems

Job Description

The Field Technologist supports installation, field testing, and auditing of commercial fenestration systems (window-wall, curtain wall, and infill assemblies) to ensure compliance with performance standards including CSA-A440.4-19, AAMA 503, ASTM E783, and ASTM E1105. The role involves field testing for air and water infiltration, installation verification, coordination with QA/QC, and communication with consultants and clients.

Key Responsibilities



Conduct air infiltration and water penetration tests per ASTM E783/E1105 and AAMA 503.

Perform installation audits including anchorage, sealants, drainage, and air/vapour barrier connections.

Document field data, leakage rates, pressure differentials, and system performance results.

Review installation details, mock-ups, and sampling plans per CSA-A440.4-19 and AAMA 503.

Identify and document deficiencies, issue corrective action reports, and verify retesting.

Prepare comprehensive field reports and test summaries with pass/fail evaluations.

Coordinate with site personnel, consultants, and QA/QC managers for test setup and remediation.

Maintain calibration and operational readiness of all test equipment.

Adhere to all safety and QA documentation procedures during site work.

Qualifications & Skills

Diploma or degree in Building Science, Architectural Technology, Construction or Mechanical Engineering Technology.

2-3 years of experience in fenestration, glazing, or curtain wall testing and installation auditing.

Knowledge of ASTM E783/E1105, AAMA 503, and CSA-A440.4-19 field testing standards.

Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings related to window-wall assemblies.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and digital reporting tools.

Excellent technical writing, communication, and documentation skills.

Valid driver's license with ability to travel regionally.

Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.

Preferred Experience

Experience with window-wall or curtain wall mock-up testing and commissioning.

Knowledge of Ontario Building Code envelope requirements and exposure zones.

Familiarity with QA/QC processes and sampling frequency planning.

Experience in consulting or testing services related to fenestration performance.

Work Conditions



This role is primarily field-based with work across construction sites in Ottawa-Gatineau and surrounding regions.
Exposure to outdoor weather, heights, and construction environments is expected. Some overtime, early starts, or weekend work may be required for testing schedules or retesting following site changes.
