EXP\'s Calgary office is currently seeking a Field Technician (3-month contract) to join their team and be a part of dynamic and growing practice in Calgary. Reporting to the Geotechnical & Materials Discipline Manager, the successful candidate will be joining a well-established and diverse engineering group in Burnaby poised for growth and challenging opportunities well into the future. This is an hourly contract position which could lead to future full-time opportunities.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Materials Testing team, based in Calgary, AB office and have the opportunity to work with a great team.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

Applicant will be responsible for various construction material QC tests, both in lab and in field. Materials tested include:

• aggregates & soils
• asphalt
• concrete
• steel (rebar)

Tests include:

• sieve analysis
• proctor test
• geotechnical index testing (moisture content, hydrometer, atterberg limits, etc)
• casting of concrete strength cylinders
• preparation & breaking of concrete strength cylinders
• concrete slump & air content
• Marshall compliance testing
• asphalt and concrete coring
• in-situ soil and aggregate density testing
• Asphalt compaction monitoring
• Rebar pull-out testing
• Double Ring Infiltration Testing
• and many others

Variety of tests performed will depend on the applicant\'s proficiency with the tasks presented to them. Applicable training will be offered prior to work commencement, with training given during the work term as required. Applicant may be required to complete external certification testing during their term (to be determined by supervisor).

What your experience looks like

• Able to lift heavy loads without assistance (up to 40kg)
• Class 5 Driver\'s License (or min Class 7 N) and access to your own vehicle
• Overtime, Night and/or Weekend Work (on an as needed basis)
• Ability to work both in a team and independently
• Punctuality and effective time management skills in order to meet client deadlines
• Excellent communication skills, particularly in one-on-one conversation and technical reporting
• Students with a background in Civil, Materials, Geological, and/or Environmental Engineering are preferred.
