Position Overview

Provides high quality face-to-face customer service through the installation, analysis, coordination, maintenance, testing, repair and removal of customer premise equipment, outside plant facilities, and critical infrastructure equipment. Partners and interacts with internal and external customers to ensure timely service. Maintains a positive and professional demeanor when communicating and delivering the company\'s products and services to our customers and partners. Performs related duties.

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(Not All Inclusive or Applicable to All Job Assignments) * Adheres to safe work practices and procedures to ensure personal health and safety and the health and safety of others in accordance with the Occupation Health and Safety Act.

  • Coordinates, installs, rearranges, maintains, removes, tests and repairs voice and broadband equipment, wiring, associated hardware, applications and outside plant facilities for communication, broadband, and television services. Responsible to presurvey residential, rural, and business buildings for the purpose of identifying the type of wiring, materials, and the amount of labour to be required. Provides training to customers as required.
  • Installs (including connecting, splicing, grounding and terminating), tests, maintains and removes telephone, coaxial and fibre cables/wiring, terminals and associated equipment in outside plant facilities, access terminals, remote equipment sites such as concentrators, customer premises and central offices for residential and business customers, as well as other SaskTel departments.
  • Places, rearranges, splices, maintains, and removes aerial, buried, and underground feeder and distribution cables, including those in underground duct formations and confined spaces, as well as service wires. Buries distribution cables using heavy equipment, coordinates with other utilities, as well as restores work sites and customer premises upon completion.
  • Investigates customer service reports by testing and locating problems. Investigates and reports damage to outside plant facilities. Identifies, repairs, and replaces defective and/or damaged station equipment and outside plant facilities to restore or improve service.
  • Analyzes plans, specifications, schematics, and related drawings, revises where required, and implements, in order to install, rearrange, repair, and recover equipment.
  • Organizes, coordinates, and completes releases with customers and other SaskTel departments for facility rearrangements, additions, changes, and repairs, which may include work outside normal working hours
  • Previews jobs, coordinates activities, and may monitor and inspect work performed by contractors.
  • Locates and stakes buried facilities as requested.
  • Programs, installs, and maintains cable pressurization systems and associated software. Responds to cable monitoring alarms.
  • Ensures discrepancies related to work orders, repair calls, customer accounts or network records are brought to the attention of the responsible department.
  • Operates hydraulic and heavy equipment, including polecat digger trucks, bucket/ladder trucks, excavators, bobcats, trenchers, and backhoes, as required. Erects and removes poles, aerial cable, guy wires and associated hardware for aerial lines. Identifies, assists, and notifies sales of potential sale opportunities.
  • Arranges for and coordinates vehicle maintenance appointments. Maintains vehicle stock levels to ensure adequate supplies for daily work assignments.
  • Responsible for administrative processes relating to material/stock usage, time reporting, order completion, vehicles, and customer billing documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS * Two year Technical Institute Diploma in a relevant field of study such as telecommunications, electronics, communications engineering, computer science or computer networking OR One year Certificate (in relevant field of study listed above) with 1 year of experience (see qualification #2) OR Grade 12 with Algebra 30 or Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre-calculus 30 and 2 years of experience (see qualification #2).
  • Working knowledge of processes, procedures and/or systems for metro, urban and rural customers in at least one of the following:
  • The installation, maintenance and repair of current consumer and business voice systems, equipment, and applications.
  • The installation, maintenance and repair of current consumer and business broadband-based systems, equipment, and applications.
  • The installation, maintenance and repair of current data systems and equipment.
  • The placement, maintenance, and repair of fibre and copper outside plant, underground, aerial, and buried facilities.
  • The placement, maintenance, and repair of inside fibre and copper facilities.
  • General knowledge of the software applications used in daily functions.
  • General knowledge of techniques needed to deliver an outstanding Customer Experience.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to work independently, is self-motivated and demonstrates initiative.
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, collaborate, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
