Position Summary
The primary focus of this position is to ensure that fall arrest equipment is inspected and installed in accordance to industry and legislated standards, while also ensuring a superior client experience while on the client site. The challenge of this position is being able to carry out the job tasks with the high level of attention to detail required so as to ensure any and all equipment worked on or inspected is safe for use. This position works under minimal supervision. This position must be available Monday through Friday for day shifts only. Overtime may be required based on operational need and is a condition of employment. Travel within Atlantic Canada is a job requirement for the purposes of conducting inspections at job sites. Travel within Canada will also be required on a scheduled basis.

Major Responsibilities
INSPECTION AND INSTALLATION (INCLUDING TRAVEL TIME) (65%):
On a daily basis:
With a demonstrated understanding of the specific workings and functions of fall arrest equipment, as well as the current legislated requirements, and with great attention to detail, inspect various pieces of fall arrest equipment.
With a demonstrated understanding of the specific workings and functions of fall arrest equipment, as well as the current legislated requirements, and with great attention to detail, install fall arrest equipment.
Using great attention to detail and a demonstrated understanding of the safe operation of each vehicle, operate boom and scissor lifts to allow inspections or installations to take place.
On an as needed basis:
With a clear understanding of travel times required for client commitments, and while always being responsible with company funds, make all travel arrangements (excluding air travel) for client site inspections.
EQUIPMENT INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE & REPAIR (10%):
On a weekly basis:
With a demonstrated superior product knowledge, as well as with current legislated requirements, and will with great attention to detail, inspect all new gear as it arrives at the shop.
With great attention to detail, and in following all legislated requirements, repair and recertify self retracting lifelines
Following accepted practices and with attention to detail, destroy failed fall arrest equipment with mini cutters and bolt cutters.
With a demonstrated superior product knowledge, and with great attention to detail, disassemble, troubleshoot and repair retractable lifelines.
ADMINISTRATION (8%):
On a daily basis:
With great attention to detail, and in following all legislated requirements, record and file all inspection and recertification paperwork.
Vehicle check list, inventory transfer & sign out, hazard analysis/safe work procedure paperwork
CLIENT CONSULTING AND TRAINING (7%):
On a weekly basis:
With a demonstrated understanding of both client and legislated requirements, and using superior customer service and communication skills, discuss with clients appropriate equipment choices, take measurements and photos for installation work.
Using excellent communication, active listening and customer service skills, provide use, maintenance and care training on how to use fall arrest equipment properly.
ATTEND TRAINING / PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (5%):
On an monthly basis:
With an awareness of changing product specifications and/or changes to governing pieces of legislation and provincial differences in legislation, attend training courses put on by manufacturers in order to remain current on all aspects of the product TFP uses/services/inspects/installs.
VEHICLE ORGANIZATION / MAINTENANCE (5%):
On an daily basis:
With an awareness of equipment needed for daily activities and with close attention to detail, ensure truck is stocked with appropriate tools, jig, weights, PPE, toolboxes, job specific items, SRL parts, paperwork, and site passes.
With great attention to details and in following established organizational procedures, ensure required maintenance is conducted, including fueling, fluid levels, oil changes, etc.
Education and Knowledge
Education (preferred): Post-secondary diploma.
Certifications (If applicable): OH&S training
Skills and Abilities (preferred): Must be highly organized and detail-oriented; highly effective problem solver with superior customer service, communication, negotiation and active listening skills; must be able to manage time effectively, work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks while remaining flexible to change; able to work independently; must be highly analytical and able to use logical thinking; must be self-motivated; must be able to maintain confidentiality with organizational and customer information. Professional / Technical Knowledge: Knowledgeable in relevant provincial and federal Acts and Regulations as well as of the industry in general; knowledgeable of product/manufacturer specifications.
Equipment: Phone, cutters (mini cutters and bolt cutters), drill, grinder, heat gun, truck, adhesives, gloves. Wrenches, sockets & driver, measuring devices (load cell, torque wrench)
Experience (preferred): (1) year experience working with fall protection/fall arrest equipment and working at heights, preferably in a construction trade and/or as an inspector.
On-the-Job-Training Time (expected): Three (6) months (apprenticeship)
4. Physical Requirements and Environmental Disadvantages: Lifting excess of 50lbs. (e.g., safety equipment); climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching and repetitive movements most often when inspecting cabling. Intense visual concentration when conducting close visual inspections. Sense of hearing is required when communicating with people on the ground while working at heights, or when carrying out inspections (i.e. a spring can sound wrong when winding). Sense of smell can be used to identify spills and stains.
