This position has a term length of 1 year plus 1 day, with a strong possibility of extension, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Location -

This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at the ABMI offices in Edmonton.

Position Summary




Working in the ABMI (Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute)'s Information Centre, the Field Data Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the ABMI's field and lab data quality assurance and quality control program to ensure the integrity of data products; supporting the ABMI's management of grants, ensuring efficient reporting and tracking of deliverables; leading and coordinating the development and maintenance of ABMI internal information systems; and supporting Access Management to ABMI's field sites.

1. Field & Lab Data Management and QA/QC

Lead and manage ABMI's field and lab data management and QA/QC program, including metadata standards and SOPs. Oversee QA/QC processes, metadata updates, and verification across all stages of the data lifecycle. Coordinate field-collected tablet data, photo archives, and remote camera/ARU data management (including WildTrax uploads). Develop and maintain internal data management tools in collaboration with Systems Analyst, Database Programmer, and contractors. Support other ABMI Centres by updating shared information systems (e.g., Site Summary Workbench).

2. Project Management

Lead and support data management quality system projects, including designing new tools and applications. Develop business cases, project work plans, budgets, and contracts for new data management initiatives. Coordinate cross-centre collaboration to define project goals, requirements, and tool functionality. Oversee development of user documentation such as SOPs, user guides, and instructional resources. Guide project delivery across internal staff, technical experts, and external contractors.

3. Field Site Access Management Support

Support the Access Manager in securing permissions and coordinating access to ABMI monitoring sites. Review and facilitate external site access requests, including assessment of proposals and coordination of data-sharing needs. Assist field crews with operational support during field seasons. Coordinate the preparation of landowner packages, mapping products, and story maps.

4. Information Sharing & Dissemination

Coordinate the ABMI publications archive, data catalogue, and contributions to external data systems (e.g., FWMIS, GBIF). Maintain strong working relationships with external partners to support data sharing and integration. Lead the maintenance, updates, and public release of the ABMI Quality Management Plan (QMP) and related QA/QC documents. Support internal communications, including the Annual Report, webinars, and other ABMI activities. Lead the development of data management plans aligned with FAIR data principles. B.Sc. in biological sciences or a related discipline. More than 3 years of experience in ecology, environmental science, or natural resource management, with strong organizational, writing, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of ecological data and experience with data quality assurance and control. Experience coordinating projects, assets, and logistical workflows. Demonstrated commitment to ABMI's values, vision, and mission, and interest in sustainable resource management. Strong interpersonal communication skills with a proactive, self-motivated approach to problem solving. Ability to adapt to evolving priorities and a demonstrated willingness to learn and grow.
