Zapp Electrical Contractors Ltd. is a fast-growing electrical company specializing in fiber optics. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Fibre Optic Splicer, wishing to join a fantastic team on Vancouver Island, specifically working in Nanaimo and surrounding Islands.

Applicants joining the Zapp team will be a part of a team who enjoys working outside building the fibre network for existing and new constructions building.

As Fibre Optic Splicer/Tester you are responsible for the installation, splicing and testing of fibre optic installations. You will take pride in ensuring installations are completed and functioning properly.

Responsibilities include:

Interact with project owners and engineers

Responsible for updating and maintaining project tracking information (daily production sheets, timesheets etc.)

Must have OSP and ISP fiber optic splicing experience

OSP: Splicing underground and aerial fiber, building splice closures, entering man holes and hanging splice closures from overhead line.

ISP: Inside terminations, installing fiber termination panels, OTDR and power meter testing.

Must know how to operate and read test results from OTDR and power meters

Should be able to pull a splice trailer, operate a bucket truck and set up traffic on roads and highways

Should be knowledgeable and able to use fiber optic hand tools such as:

Fiber strippers

Ring tools

Fiber identifier

Ribbon splitter

Cleavers

Help build and maintain positive relations within the team

Qualifications include:

Experience as a Fibre optic Splicer/Tester is an asset

Familiarity with safety procedures when working aloft and in confined spaces

Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills

Ability to follow direction of direct supervisor(s)

Strong knowledge of Google applications

Ability to read and understand customer provided drawings along with daily completion of time and production logs

Must have and maintain a valid provincial driver's license

Must have and maintain a clean driver's abstract

Must be fully vaccinated and provide valid COVID-19 vaccination record (unless you have a legitimate recognized medical or religious reason for not getting vaccinated)

Ability to work indoors/outdoors and in all weather conditions
