Position: Fermentation Specialist

Salary: Up to $65K

Our client is looking for you:
- Bilingualism to communicate with suppliers outside the Quebec region
- Minimum DEC in biochemistry, science, chemistry, food science or other relevant studies
- At least 3 years of experience working in a laboratory with enzymes and proteins
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Available to work weekends and or evenings (on occasion)
- Experience in writing SOPs, validation protocols, BPRs and proficiency in good record keeping, writing various protocols and reports
- Good knowledge and experience in basic analytical techniques related to microbial enumeration enzymatic activity measurement, protein analyses, etc.
- Good knowledge and experience in fermentation processes and fermentation equipment
- Good mechanical skills (asset)
- Experience in process scale up and tech transfer (asset)

Your role:
- Write and review standard operating procedures (SOPs), batch production records (BPRs), validation protocols, investigation reports and campaign summary reports
- Participate in purchasing raw materials and consumables, receives and releases them according to procedures while maintaining required raw material inventory for each production campaign
- Perform in vitro analytical procedures such as enzyme activity assays, cell growth determinations, pH, metabolite analyses, microbiological assays, etc.
- Actively participate in troubleshooting the equipment and fermentation process, and proposes sound solutions
- Ensure consistent enzyme and protein production by safely performing duties associated with media preparation, microbial fermentation and recovery processes all in accordance with the Safety Manual and procedures established under the ISO 13485 standard
- Clean the equipment, sets-up, operates, calibrates, monitors, and executes fermentation as defined in the SOPs, BPRs, validation and continuous improvement protocols, and documents the results in a contemporaneous and consistent manner
- Participate in the fermentation development, scale-up and technology transfer of enzyme and protein expression
- Collaborate with the downstream department for product transfer and for forward processing
- Inform line supervisor on non-conformances, process deviations and quality matters in a timely manner
- Assist in additional project tasks as may be required from time to time
