Job Purpose



The Occupational Therapist will work apart of a support team to provide support to adults to support home stability and goal achievement through a client centered approach. The Occupational Therapist will be based in-house but will also work and represent Bissell Centre out in the community. This position focuses on assessing participant's executive function and assisting in the formulation of care plans. Through assessment and intervention, the Occupational Therapist will support skill development that enables participants to engage in activities of daily living, employment, and any additional areas that aim to increase home stability, reduce isolation, and increase meaningful daily activity.

The Occupational Therapist is expected to have the ability to respond quickly to individuals in crisis.

Duties and Responsibilities



Program Delivery



Administer assessments on all residents, as appropriate. Including the Executive Function Performance Test (EFPT) Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile Assist Resident Support Worker's (RSW) in establishing and meeting meaningful goals with the residents within the home and community setting. Collaborate in the development of methods that address emotional regulation, and that promote adaptive social and life skills. Provide personalized and on-going professional development/coaching to RSWs around brain function which includes emotional regulation, sensory disorders, mental illness, and the like, as appropriate. Maintain accurate written case file notes, computer records, update program databases (ETO), program information, and Critical Incident reports within established time standards. Provide latest program information and updated statistics as required. Developing, and monitoring systems to track progress towards goals with the residents and the PSW support team. Maintain and submit accurate mileage and expense logs for reimbursement. Attending scheduled staff and supervision meetings. Complete WCB forms as required. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications



Minimum university degree in Occupational Therapy. Masters Preferred. Training and experience in providing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Familiarity with Skills System is an asset. Knowledge of the history and culture of Indigenous peoples 3 years' experience working with high-risk populations which includes, but is not limited to, understanding of poverty, homelessness, addictions, FASD and mental health concerns. Community based experience is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



Strong ability to build relationships. Knowledge of harm reduction, and trauma-informed care Motivated self-starter with strong written communication, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills Results oriented individual with good time management who possesses strong organizational, problem-solving and advocacy skills. Ability to provide individual and group support services as well as workshop development and facilitation. The ability to support people and/or coordinate support in a variety of diverse settings. Experience with case management software is a considerable asset. Proven ability to take initiative and to develop own systems.

Conditions of Work



Operation of personal vehicle with required insurance Some early morning, evening and weekend work may be required as caseload coverage is participant centered.

Organizational Skills: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details/data/information/activities.

Plan: Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create, and implement action plans, and evaluate the process and results.

Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.

Screening Requirements



Criminal Record Check CWIS Check Valid driver's license, proof of $2 million PLPD insurance and drivers abstract. Training Requirements



Standard First Aid and CPR Conflict Into Calm Training
Conflict Into Calm Training must be completed during the three months of employment. Other required training may be identified as required.
