Hines Health Services (HHS) is seeking qualified and professional
FARE (Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation) Examiners
to administer the FARE test for paramedic and EMS applicants.
The FARE test is a standardized physical assessment that evaluates an applicant's ability to perform essential job functions required of frontline emergency medical personnel. Examiners are entrusted with ensuring candidates meet the required physical standards while maintaining a safe, fair, and professional testing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and oversee the full FARE testing process, including:
Medical Clearance & PAR-Q review.
Cardiovascular Screening (blood pressure and heart rate).
Musculoskeletal Screening (mobility, posture, balance, flexibility).
Lifting & Carrying Tasks (progressive lifts up to 48 kg; front and bilateral side carries).
Kneeling & Flexion Tasks (2 minutes duration).
Timed Circuit (completion within 15 minutes).
Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols.
Provide clear instructions and coaching on proper lifting and carrying technique.
Monitor candidate performance objectively and document results accurately.
Identify any risk factors that may disqualify a candidate from proceeding.
Issue certificates of completion to successful candidates.
Deliver professional feedback and re-testing guidance to unsuccessful candidates.
Apply knowledge of EMS operations and FARE protocols in candidate assessment.
Qualifications
Required:
Background in kinesiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, athletic therapy, paramedicine, nursing, or a related health discipline.
Valid CPR/First Aid certification.
Demonstrated experience conducting physical assessments or functional ability testing.
Preferred:
Prior experience in fitness testing or pre-employment evaluations.
Familiarity with occupational health, ergonomics, and EMS operations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress situations.
Working Conditions
Casual/part-time schedule; workload varies with testing demand.
Work performed in clinical or fitness testing facilities, or at firehalls.
Involves hands-on assessment, candidate instruction, and observation of physically demanding tasks.
Compensation
Registered Nurse (RN) / Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP): $50 - $60 per hour
Primary Care Paramedic (PCP): $38 - $48 per hour
