Family Support Worker - Thetis



This is a auxiliary, in-person/in-community role, located in the city of Mission. Hours of work may be up to 12 hours/week consisting of 3 days per week from 3PM-7PM, or as client needs.

Job Goal:



The Family Support Worker will work one-to-one with a 18-year old, high-functioning autistic youth to assist in any economic, vocational, recreational, social, emotional, future housing needs, skills and daily life development to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.

Performance Responsibilities



Supporting families through above?mentioned processes. Facilitating psycho?education and support groups. Ensuring adequate communication and liaison between SAGE, school, recreation, physical care and other resources. Participate in planning for and in discussions of progress of children and youth using strength?based ICM and wraparound processes. Preparing required reports, keeping records and performing other duties as required Facilitating parent education trainings. Using information gathered from assessment tools and collaboration with clients to identify clear client goals and appropriate intervention strategies. Reviewing and updating client goals on a regular basis. Facilitating presentations for community service providers to enhance knowledge of brain-based disabilities. Other duties as negotiated with Program Director

Education and Experience Requirements



Bachelor's degree in social work, child and youth care, or related human service 1-year related experience working with children and youth who demonstrate significant to severe behavioral difficulties, exhibit cognitive and developmental challenges and have complex health and mental health issues Working knowledge of children, youth, and families with complex behavioral disorder needs, and/or multiple social or educational needs, and how to support families An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

Additional Requirements



Criminal Record Check required Must have a current, valid Level 1 First Aid certificate. Must have a current Low Arousal Deescalation (LAT) certificate. Must possess a valid B.C. Driver's License. Use of a reliable vehicle capable of safely transporting client/family Must provide a proof of a satisfactory driving record (driver's abstract) from ICBC. Must have verification of vehicle insurance.
