Job Summary:



The goal of this position is to provide support to family members of individuals with mental health issues in the catchment area of the South Okanagan Similkameen Mental Wellness Centre in the South Okanagan Service Area of the Interior Health Authority.

Reporting to the Office Administrator or the Board of Directors, the Family Support Worker (FSW) will provide family support services through facilitation of education/support groups, promoting community awareness, developing partnerships, and connecting with resources.

Hours of work will vary and may involve travel to South Okanagan Similkameen communities.

Job Responsibilities:



Educational and Support Activities: Provide support and information to families or other supports of persons who have a mental health concern. Promote, coordinate and facilitate: Strengthening Families Together, Kids in Control, Teenagers in Control, Partnership Presentations, Family Support Groups, Special Events. Assist Family Members to connect with community resources: Advisory Committees, Educational opportunities, and other appropriate events. Coordinate and distribute educational materials for individuals, schools and agencies. Support the Mental Wellness Centre. Identify new opportunities for FSW. Board and Wellness Center Support: Provide regular reports to Board including program updates and attendance information. Contribute to reports to Interior Health and other funding agencies. Assist with promotion by attending partnership and community events. Assist with completion of grant applications. Support the Wellness Centre by assisting with promotional and fundraising activities, participating in maintenance of the educational resources and library, and office support as required. Maintain confidentiality policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skill:



Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field Preferably 2-3 years of experience supporting someone with mental illness Knowledge of major mental illnesses and the Recovery Model, and the impact on family members and loved ones of individuals with a mental illness Knowledge of the Mental Health system in the South Okanagan Knowledge of community resources Ability to use effective interpersonal skills and active listening to establish rapport with families, consumers and members of the community Demonstrate ability to be self-directed, work independently, and demonstrate initiative for contacting and supporting family members Good organization and time management skills Good written and verbal skills Good computer skills including experience with all Microsoft Office Suite products Ability to demonstrate empathy Ability to maintain healthy boundaries Ability to adhere to standards of confidentiality Demonstrates effective team work skills

Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for work purposes
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: From $25.27 per hour
