Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Family Support Worker provides support to the parents, youth, children, individuals and families and encourages member participation in relevant activities at Tyndale St-Georges and in the wider community. The Family Support Worker assesses and refers families in difficulty to other resources that can meet their needs, ensuring accompaniment and proper follow-up. The Family Support Worker represents the needs of individuals and families at Tyndale St-Georges, and works as part of a team in support of the wider mission of Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre. The Family Support Worker will also promote a conducive environment for team work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Management
+ Assesses the various social-emotional and psycho-educational needs (on an individual and department wide basis) within each Department in collaboration with the Director of the Department and the Executive Director
+ Develop and maintain partnerships with schools, school boards, churches and related community organizations
+ Ensure relevant issues are communicated to individuals, parents and staff and necessary follow up is completed
Administrative
+ Attend Department team meetings and department events
+ Ensure client files are maintained (consent, progress notes)
+ Write various program reports
+ Gather and organize program statistics
+ Evaluate programs on a continual basis
+ Promptly reconcile any bills, receipts and petty cash accounts
+ Work in collaboration with directors with administrative duties associated all programs (fee collection, notice distribution, advertising of events)
Support Services
+ Develop workshops, information sessions/activities and special events for the youth, parents, families and individuals of the community.
+ Formulation and implementation of TSG intervention plans
+ Ongoing counselling with individuals/families
+ Help individual's access support of other TSG resources and other supportive agencies
+ Crisis Intervention
Supervision
+ Supervise interns and volunteers during programming
Support of Tyndale St-Georges
+ Promote Centre services through all program activities (publicity, recruitment, registrations, and orientations)
+ Participation in mandatory special events and other activities of Tyndale St-Georges
+ Attend relevant Centre wide meetings and events
Skills and Abilities
+ French and English (written and oral)
+ Experience working with ethno-cultural communities
+ Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
+ Time management/organization skills
+ Inductive/deductive reasoning and critical thinking
+ Active listening/comprehension
+ Computer literacy
+ Good communication skills
+ Knowledge of Quebec education system.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor Degree in Social Work or relevant field of study
+ Preference given to those who are part of a professional order
+ Previous experience working with children and youth
+ Previous experience working with families
+ Knowledge and sensitivity towards issues concerning diverse ethno--cultural communities
Job conditions
+ Hourly Wage: $32-$37 (based on experience)
+ Full time, permanent, 35 hours per week
+ 3 month probation period
+ Group health insurance plan and pension after probationary period 3 months probationary period
