Family Support Worker
The Tsartlip First Nation is pleased to invite applicants to apply to the permanent, full-time Family Support Worker position.
The Family Support Worker (FSW) provide intensive support services to families that will assist them in developing their skills and abilities to safely care for their children. The FSW uses a holistic and healing approach to assist families and bring positive growth into their lives. Services consist of individual support, modelling, providing information, advocacy, and conducting family circles and family meetings. The FSW works collaboratively with families to develop strategies for problem solving, conflict resolution, parenting skills, home management, and other relevant life skills. The views of children, families and communities are sought, valued, respected and considered in all aspects of service planning, service delivery and service evaluation. The FSW operates under the direct supervision of the Children, Youth and Families Program Manager (Manager).

The salary for this position is starting at $59,925 per annum.
Education and Experience
oBachelor's degree in social work, and
oCurrent full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers; and
oMinimum of three (3) years of recent related experience in the Human Services field; or
oAn equivalent combination of education and recent related experience;
oExperience in Indigenous Social Work in child welfare and social services;
oExperience in Child Welfare Frontline Case Management systems and procedures;
oExperience working with children and families;
oExperience working in family prevention intervention;
oExperience developing, interpreting and monitoring budgets and statistics;
oExperience working in aboriginal communities is an asset;
oValid Class 5 driver's licence, reliable vehicle with adequate vehicle insurance, plus a clean driver's abstract is required;
oClean criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector required;
oValid standard first aid and CPR certificate required.
Duties and Responsibilities
oSupports families to prepare for and participate in the assessment of family strengths, risks and needs;
oSets goals with the child, family, community, professionals and caregivers to plan ongoing services that will meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural needs of the child;
oProvides and receives ongoing feedback to and from the family, caregivers, and other professionals providing services to the child, regarding the quality and expectations of service;
oEnsures that service expectations are appropriate to the child's age and level of development and realistic within the time frames available to the child and resource for such activities;
oSeeks guidance from the Manager as required;
oSupport Tsartlip families to access Jordan's Principle funding and services by helping them understand eligibility, gather documents, and complete applications; follow up on approvals, denials, and appeals;
oPlan and facilitate supportive groups for men, women, parents/caregivers, youth, and children that focus on healthy relationships, parenting, grief/loss, lateral kindness, and wellness -- in ways that reflect W?SANE? values and extended-family systems;
oCoordinate and host family-focused community sessions and invite external presenters, Elders, and knowledge keepers as appropriate;
oDemonstrates security awareness consistent with Nation policy when dealing with confidential documents, office safety and personal safety;
oDemonstrates proficiency in case management and organizational skills to ensure complete and accurate records are kept on all files according to policy, the timely return of telephone messages, and reliability and predictability in terms of relationship with clients and the community;
oCompletes monthly summaries in a timely manner to meet both statistical and case management responsibilities, including reviewing, transferring and closing activities;
oEnsures that the documents on the file are completed within the specified time frame;
oPromptly addresses issues that have an impact on cooperation, support, moral and service delivery;
oEstablishes respectful and effective working relationships with staff, work units and other agencies;
oSeeks knowledge and information when there may be uncertain of policy, practice, or procedures;
oSeeks professional guidance and supervision from the Manager in determining if protection investigation or service assessment is required;
oMonitors areas of responsibility for opportunities for improvement and innovation and works proactively to implement these;
oAttends departmental meetings and community events as required;
oParticipates in relevant training and workshops identified by the Manager to enhance program services;
oEnsures that service quality standards are maintained and consistently delivered in all areas of responsibility;
oMaintains strict confidentiality and exercises sound judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues;
oPresents a professional, positive and helpful attitude at all times;
oPromotes a safe work place; ensures that all established safety procedures are followed;
oCarries out other duties essential to the position as directed by the Manager.
