About the Role





This position is funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development to provide clinical services for families referred by MCFD, who are in need of support with parenting, family dynamics, family system stressors, crisis intervention, and other factors that impact the safety and well-being of children in the family. The Clinical Counsellor works with families using trauma informed and strength-based strategies to address risk. Provides clinical services for individuals, couples and families that includes an assessment of social, psychological, emotional and/or behavioural issues and develops therapeutic strategies that best meet the presenting need. Services may include, but are not limited to conflict resolution, anger management, communication skills development, crisis intervention, community liaison, and educational. Services are offered to families in their homes, the community and in the office. *Some late afternoon and early evening work is required for this role.


Position:

Full-time, 35 hours a week.


Compensation:

$40.05 - $46.72 per hour


Indirect Compensation




3 weeks vacation pay, which increases with length of service Municipal Pension Plan Enrollment/Portability with 9.31% Pension matching after the 3-month probationary period or upon hire, depending on current Pension enrollment status Extended Health and Dental benefits after the 3 month probationary period 1 paid wellness day per year Paid birthday off Paid sick time which increases with length of service.

Qualifications




Education and experience


Master's degree: M.S.W (mental health specialization); or M.A (clinical psychology); or M.Ed. (counselling psychology) Minimum three years of experiencing working with youth and families with complex needs Current registration with professional association - preferred

Job skills and abilities


Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, facilitation, oral and written skills. Strong understanding of Trauma Informed Practice and has integrated theory into practice. Understands impact of colonization, residential schools and resulting intergenerational trauma in indigenous communities Knowledge of issues faced by 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and families Incorporates positive child/youth development and a strengths-based approach Knowledge of parenting skills, family systems theory, and attachment theory Knowledge of the dynamics of intimate partner violence and relational abuse Knowledge of Child, Family and Community Services Act and the Ministry of Children and Family Development Knowledge of family breakdown and family impact (grief, loss, parent/child separation) Knowledge of issues related to intimate partner violence and impact on family development Knowledge of issues related to child abuse including sexual abuse and neglect Knowledge of the bio-psycho-social factors that affect mental wellness including substance use Strong conflict management and resolution skills Proficient knowledge of group processes and group facilitation techniques Ability to work effectively with participants, program team, and other community professionals Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills Knowledge of program development Good time management skills, including the ability to work independently
