FAMILY SUPPORT ADVOCATE



The Family Support Advocate is responsible for providing advocacy services to child victims and their non-offending family members when served by the multidisciplinary team at the Bison Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.

The Family Support advocate works with the Bison Child & Youth Advocacy Centre Coordinator and is responsible for assisting in the implementation of strategic direction, organization, and management of the family support program.

SKILLS



Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment (specifically within a multidisciplinary team consisting of the High Level Community Policing Society, the RCMP, Children's Services, North Peace Tribal Council Children Services, Mamawai Awasis, The Crown Prosecutor's Office, Victim Services and Alberta Health Services). Understanding the criminal court process and associated agencies is considered an asset. Knowledge of child abuse and violence within the home dynamics, and the impacts that this can have on the family and child.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Maintaining strict standards of confidentially for all persons accessing the services offered by the Bison Child & Youth Advocacy Centre. Ensuring that children/youth and their non-offending family members feel welcomed from the moment they enter the Bison Centre up until they leave. Supporting non-offending family members via "care calls", providing information, referrals, and support. Providing advocacy and court services for child witnesses who have accessed the Bison Centre (throughout the process from disclosure, investigation, and any associated court processes). Attending docket court and other court proceedings, while providing appropriate court updates to non-offending family members. Travel to surrounding areas as required providing advocacy and court services to child witnesses who have accessed the Bison Centre for support and services. Planning and facilitating age-appropriate court preparation for all child/youth witnesses who have accessed the Centre and ensuring proper documentation of all interactions. Work alongside the Coordinator to manage cases and collect statistics for reporting purposes. Represent the Bison Child & Youth Advocacy Centre at community events, public forums, gatherings etc. This may also require facilitating presentations on behalf of the Bison Centre. Support the Coordinator with program administration, assist with day-to-day operations of the Centre and ensure that the Centre is organized and prepared for client arrival. Take a key role in utilizing social media for effective communication with the community about the happenings of the Bison Centre Assisting in planning and implementing any fundraising events involving the Bison Centre and the High Level Community Policing Society.
Education:

Undergrad Degree or equivalent experience may considered. First Aid and Assist training an asset.
Salary: $50,000.00 to $60,000.00 per year, depending on previous experience and qualifications.
