FAMILY STEPPING STONES - Case Manager

Family Stepping Stones (FSS)

offers supports for families who struggle with parenting due to various factors (e.g., substance use, mental health, lack of resources, trauma, lack of supports, etc.) and whose children are in care of CFS or at risk of coming into care.


Position details are as follows:


Monday - Friday (DAYS)

Responsibilities will include:



Provide support to youth transitioning from care into independence. This transition will involve a focus on the eight pillars of independence, Financial, Educations & Professional development, Housing, Relationships, Culture & Spirituality, Health & wellbeing, Advocacy & Rights, Emerging adulthood development. Supporting youth with connections to their family and community, or helping them root in an alternative place, with significant others around that will support them in adulthood. Coordinating services to meet the needs of the youth including assessments, goal setting, finding resources, making referrals, advocating for services, and securing funding. Building relationships with the youth, their families and communities and establishing or maintaining connections with culture of origin. Directing support staff to meet programming goals and providing feedback for performance management. Coordinating and chairing multi-disciplinary system meetings; liaising with other professionals such government departments, school systems, medical professionals, legal systems, clinical teams, etc. Professional level administrative functions including case notes, report writing, funding proposals, support plans, assessments, and referrals. Managing crisis situations and developing response protocols, providing support on-call after hours on a rotating basis.

What you will bring:



B.S.W./B.A. or related social services education such as Family Therapy, Human Ecology, and Indigenous Studies (a combination of training and experience will be considered). Trauma Informed Care. Indigenous history, Colonization effects, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and CFS reform in Canada. 5 years' experience working with children in care. First Aid certification, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and Mental Health First Aid certification would be considered assets. Supervisory, training and coaching skills; relationship building, boundary setting and performance management skills. Knowledge of Housing/Tenancy supports, Employment Income Assistance (EIA) and Canada Manitoba Housing Benefits (CMHB). Excellent communication skills including mediating difficult conversations, conflict resolution. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Travel required to multiple locations within Winnipeg. Driver's license and vehicle required. Must have flexibility in schedule as some evening and weekend availability will be required. Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants with previous experiential knowledge of the Child Welfare System in Manitoba.


The salary range for this 70-hour bi-weekly position is $26.28 to $33.90 per hour (equivalent to $47,829 to $61,698 per annum), dependent upon education and/or experience. A full benefits package (which include Health and Dental Benefits, Long Term Disability Benefits, and a Pension Plan) is provided to regular full-time staff.


The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record, and Child and Adult Abuse Registry checks. A recent Driver's Abstract must be provided.
