Family Mentor / Counsellor

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Family Mentor/ Counsellor to join our team. In this role, you will provide therapeutic support to mothers and their children who are navigating complex interpersonal challenges, mental health issues, and life transitions. You will work with diverse clients to promote healing, improve communication, and strengthen family bonds.

QUALIFICATIONS



This position requires the completion of a degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Counselling, Child and Youth Care or other related education, and/or a minimum of 4 years' experience in a similar field. If applicable, this position requires a minimum of 5 years of continuous sobriety.

Full-time Shift: Monday to Friday/ occasional support required outside of these days, as well as a minimal rotating on-call schedule with additional pay Part-time Shift: Negotiable

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



A.

ADMINISTRATION DUTIES



Maintain accurate and confidential client records and progress notes. Accurate and timely completion of incident reports. Regular communication with team members.

B.

CLIENT RELATIONS



Conduct screening, biopsychosocial-spiritual assessments to understand client histories and needs. Develop and support the implementation of evidence-based, individualized treatment plans tailored to client needs and goals. Offer support, modelling, and mentoring to mothers and children dealing with complex behavioural, emotional, and mental health issues. Maintain a strong understanding of trauma and deliver trauma-informed care. Contribute to a wrap-around approach that addresses families' needs--physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and cultural. Provide individual and group counselling to address addiction and co-occurring mental health issues. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and community resources to provide support to clients. Facilitate conflict resolution and address crises with calmness and patience. Stay current with advancements in the field of family treatment that focuses on the mother-child unit and counselling through literature and professional development. Transport mothers and children to and from health and wellness-related appointments when alternative transportation is not available.

C.

SUPERVISION



Provide ongoing supervision, support, and collaboration within the case management teams. Supervise and model positive parenting behaviours to ensure that children remain in the safe care of their mothers and are not at risk of harm. Ensure the completion and filing of incident reports for submission to the Family Services Worker and Management.

D. HEALTH AND SAFETY



Conduct drug testing as required. Foster a work environment that adheres to program policies and procedures related to health and safety. Ensure that the organization and all staff are aware of and comply with current and relevant legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety)

E. OTHER REQUIREMENTS



Perform other duties as required.
