4 Wing Cold Lake Military Family Resource Centre Society (MFRCS) is currently seeking a highly motivated, resilient and client-focused Social Worker to join our team as the Family Liaison Officer. The Family Liaison Officer works within a multi-disciplinary team to provide services, referrals, and programming to meet the needs of military families coping with illness, injury, and/or a special need, or to families of fallen CAF members. This position reports to the Executive Director and is responsive to the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Centre (CAF TC).

About the role:



Provide intake/assessment services with family members to determine their situation and need for assistance. Offer prompt intervention assistance to families in crisis. Facilitate referrals to appropriate agencies/organizations and follow-up to ensure referrals have been utilized and are meeting the family's needs. Provide counseling services to clients requiring short-term crisis support. Provide outreach and support and assist families to access relevant programs/services and specialized resources and funding supports. Provide grief counselling to families experiencing loss. Maintain an information-sharing network with MFRCS programs, military resources, and community resources, for the purpose of providing clients with a variety of information and support to address their needs. Participate in the Family Crisis Team (FCT), and other relevant helping professional committees. Participate in Designated Assistant trainings. Establish a working relationship with other resource professionals and community resources who provide or may provide services to CAF members and their families. Identify, assess, and address gaps in the provision of services and benefits to CAF members and their families, in collaboration and cooperation with other members of the MFRCS and CAF TC staff. Keep current on trends and initiatives, and policies in the field of support for families; transfer that knowledge into daily practices/initiatives. Attend all applicable staff and case management meetings held by CAF TC and MFRCS multi-disciplinary teams. Foster the development and maintenance of family peer support networks and provide networking opportunities for families. Collaborate with MFRCS and CAF TC staff in the provision of general information briefs for chain of command, unit personnel (including reserve units) and general CAF communities. Design and implement sessions and programs that focus on interpersonal relationships, grief/loss, family violence, general well-being, impact of injury and family lifestyle stressors. Coordinate and facilitate self-help groups, as required, that will assist families coping with grief, separation, single parenting, casualty support, lifestyle transitions, injury/illness, special needs, etc. Evaluate services, both formally and informally, on an ongoing basis in a manner which is compatible with the MFRCS overall evaluation plan. Adhere to MFSP, MFRCS, and applicable federal/provincial policies and procedures. Adhere to the professional Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as set out by the ACSW. Consider and alert to management any risk management issues related to program area. Provide advice, assistance, and information to the Executive Director on various aspects of the programs, services, and initiatives of the CAF Transition Centre. Employ an ethical method of collecting statistics and demographic information, that ensures confidentiality of program participants. Actively promote MFRCS programs, activities, and services by such means as writing press releases, making public appearances, provide general information briefings, attend briefings and preparing articles for regular dissemination. Attend and participate in MFRCS meetings, committee work, special events and fundraising events as required. Undertake any secondary tasking and responsibilities deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the organization, its programs, and services. Utilize programming software (Penelope). Maintain legal and standardized documentation on clients.

To be successful in this position you should possess:



A Degree in Social Work; must be registered with Alberta College of Social Workers; 3-5 years (minimum) Social Work experience Ability to work with individuals, couples and families Experience with maintaining confidential and accurate files Proven experience in crisis intervention techniques and proven ability under pressure Experience in group and workshop facilitation Excellent verbal and written communication skills (public speaking required) Experience with intake and assessment as well as the ability to establish priorities and evaluate risk to self and others; Excellent interpersonal skills Experience in program development, implementation, and management Strong and thorough knowledge of community resources Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, internet A valid driver's license Team player Willingness to work flexible hours Knowledge of the unique challenges of the military lifestyle and proficiency in French are also considered an asset.
