We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Family Lawyer to join our growing legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of family law, including divorce, child and spousal support, parenting time and decision-making. The Family Lawyer will work closely with clients to provide legal advice, represent them in court, and ensure their rights are protected throughout the legal process. The Family Lawyer will have sole carriage of their files and is expected to have experience overseeing their own family law files.
Responsibilities
Provide legal counsel to clients on family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and support issues.
Draft and review legal documents including family law pleadings, motions, conference materials, financial statements, with precision and attention to detail.
Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients to achieve favorable outcomes while minimizing conflict.
Represent clients in court hearings and mediations, advocating for their best interests.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in Ontario
3+ years of family law experience
Legal aid certificate is preferred but not required
Your own book of clients is strongly preferred
Strong research skills with proficiency in using legal research databases such as CanLii and WestLaw
Ability to handle sensitive situations with compassion and professionalism
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple cases simultaneously.
Pay
Base salary starting at 45k but a 'split' will be provided, meaning you will be able to receive a percentage of your hourly billings and a larger percentage if the clients are coming from your own book
