Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Family Engagement Worker to support young fathers in developing positive parenting skills and building strong, healthy relationships with their children. This role involves home visitation, community outreach, and group programming to empower young dads in making informed, healthy choices for themselves and their families.
Job Conditions:
This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) with flexible scheduling, primarily Monday through Friday. The role requires availability for two evening shifts per week and occasional weekend hours, based on the needs of families and programming. The position is based out of the Terra Centre, located at 10320-146 Street, Edmonton.
Key responsibilities:
Serve as a leader and ambassador for the Terra Centre for Teen Parents by aligning with the organization's mission, vision, values, policies, strategic goals, and practice model.
Participate in the annual performance review process.
Provide consistent support to children and families through home visits, phone calls, text messages, and email communication.
Build and maintain meaningful relationships with agency staff, community partners, and resource organizations to enhance service delivery.
Coordinate referrals and facilitate access to community resources, helping families establish strong, sustainable community connections.
Plan, organize, and lead family meetings tailored to each family's unique needs, supporting goal setting and strategy development.
Advocate for families in crisis by assisting with problem-solving, communication, decision-making, and goal planning to build parental confidence and capacity.
Identify and maintain a network of community resources to improve programming and align with family needs and program outcomes.
Provide guidance and mentorship to participants, fostering skill development and resilience.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress on client goals and monthly statistical reports.
Collect and report outcome measures and participate in evaluation activities as required.
Adhere to Terra Centre's policies, procedures, and relevant professional codes of ethics.
Collaborate with the integrated service team to ensure holistic support for participants.
Actively participate in Community of Practice sessions, team/unit meetings, internal and external committees, and resource fairs.
Plan and facilitate daytime and evening group programming at Terra sites and in the community to support partnerships and collaborative initiatives.
Demonstrate accountability by completing tasks efficiently and effectively.
Continuously develop cultural awareness and sensitivity to support diverse families in a respectful and inclusive manner.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Services, Social Work, or Child and Youth Care/Worker
Experience providing outreach support services through home visitation
Experience providing life skills coaching and training
Experience working with low income and marginalized participants, including people facing multiple barriers
Knowledge and Abilities:
Effectively and respectfully works with others who have diverse traditions, beliefs, interpersonal styles, attitudes and behaviours
Ability to work flexible hours, if required
Excellent communication skills, oral and written
Ability to work with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and develop positive, effective, professional rapport and relationships with youth
Knowledge of issues associated with people impacted by mental illness and substance abuse
Knowledge of referral services and supports within the Edmonton community and/or the ability to research and connect with community resources
Knowledge of child/youth development and child-parent attachment
Understanding and knowledge of the issues pregnant and parenting young people face
Other requirements:
Police Information Check (including vulnerable Sector Check), completed within the last 90 days prior to start date. Processing times may take several weeks to complete these checks. Results will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Manual dexterity required to operate various appliances and equipment. Ability to lift between 25- 50 lbs.
Current Standard First Aid with Level C CPR, renewed every 3 years
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), renewed every 3 years
Valid Driver's License, clear (or Director approved) Driver's Abstract, current vehicle registration
Reliable vehicle, with 2 million dollars vehicle liability insurance, available for regular use, as outlined in Terra Policy

Compensation: The starting salary for the position is $45,000 - $47,857.
Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution. Staff have three weeks of vacation, and, in addition, the agency is closed between Christmas and New Years.
Terra Centre also offers free onsite or street parking depending on office location. We are also a casual business attire organization.
