Your Opportunity:

The Developmental Disabilities Mental Health (DDMH) program within the Addictions & Mental Health portfolio specializes in supporting the psychiatric care and management of adults and transitioning youth (16 & older) with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) and mental health disorders. The DDMH program includes the Arnika Clinic, an outpatient psychiatry service, and several in-house and outreach teams that support clients/families and caregivers with behaviour management support, therapy, emotion regulation training, occupational therapy & other mental health supports. The Family Counsellor position is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of in-house therapy program as well as provide high quality family based therapeutic interventions for our patients and families. The Family Counsellor will conduct advanced clinical assessments and use psychosocial interventions to assist clients with developmental disabilities and their families with complex situations and dynamics. You will develop and deliver individual, group and family therapy through appropriate use of evidence based therapeutic modalities. You will consult and collaborate regularly with members of the DDMH interdisciplinary team. You will participate in program development and evaluation and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. As the Family Counsellor, you may be involved in case conferences, therapeutic groups, staff meetings, professional development activities, student supervision, program planning, and other related duties. A demonstrated ability to work independently within a complex and rapidly changing environment; effective communication, organizational and computer skills; respect for diversity using a supportive, non-judgmental approach; conflict resolution, problem solving, critical thinking and leadership skills are all essential to this role.

Description:

As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Required Qualifications:

Master\'s degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with applicable professional association or college. Additional Required Qualifications:

Registered Psychologist or Masters of Social work with Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Registered and in good standing with Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) or College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). Minimum 3 years of experience providing direct family therapy in a clinical mental health setting within the last 5 years. Minimum 3 years of mental health focused group development and facilitation experience. Minimum of 5 years working full time in mental health with competency using the DSM V. Training in evidence-based family therapy modalities. Experience providing therapy using trauma informed, harm reduction and attachment-based approaches. Advanced crisis management skills including but not limited to suicide risk assessments, intervention and treatment, de-escalation skills and the ability to triage the client\'s wellness and utilize the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of the client. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience providing direct psychotherapy to individuals with developmental disabilities. Experience working with complex adults with multiple barriers to wellness. Experience directly supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Training and experience in therapeutic modalities such as: TF-CBT, CBT, DBT and/or other evidence-based modalities. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention within the last 2 years. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
