The Role: Family and Youth Resource Network Specialist (full-time, Strathmore)


An Early Childhood Development Family Resource Network Specialist provides children and families with programming and services around child development and wellbeing, caregiver capacity building and social connections and support. This role connects with formal and informal partners to provide a comprehensive range of services designed to engage families and support healthy growth and development.


This position is located in Strathmore, AB, and will require a flexible schedule (with some evening and weekend work) to meet the diverse needs of families including services in the Hub, community and family home.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all families accessing the Hub. Administer a trauma-informed intake and assessment to understand families' situations and service needs. Provide services to families on the continuum of prevention, early intervention, and intensive programming. Support family functioning, enhance family support networks, promote reunification, and support the protection and wellbeing of children through case management. Facilitate multiple parenting and child development programs (Triple P Parenting, Circle of Security Parenting, Kimochi's, Kids have Stress Too, Zones of Regulation etc.) Facilitate early childhood development activities designed to engage children and caregivers to promote protective factors and reduce risk factors. Enhance social connections for children, families and the community to decrease social isolation and build resiliency. Engage and build relationships with, and between, families, individuals, Children's Services staff, communities, schools, and other service providers. Support children and families through crises and safety planning with families and Children's Services as required. Advocate, navigate systems and refer to internal and community resources. Integrate cultural and traditional ways of meeting needs into services including, but not limited to, embedding ceremony, meeting in Circle with Elders, smudging. Maintain accurate electronic client records consistent with Aspen policies & procedures. Report-writing and collection of evaluation of progress and outcomes data. Other duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills Expectations

Diploma, Degree or certificate in Early Childhood Development, Social Work or other Human Services Field (experience and/or equivalencies also considered) Knowledge and experience working with children, youth, and families including child and adolescent development and healthy family functioning. Working knowledge of Child Development, Ages & Stages, Positive Parenting, Family Systems Theory and Attachment Theories, Grief and Loss, Natural Supports Framework and Trauma Informed Care. Strong critical thinking, engagement, and assessment skills. Superior knowledge of community resources and services. Strong relationship-building skills with an awareness of trauma-informed care principles. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with external partners. Experience with outcome measurement and electronic data management. Understanding of Infant and Adult Mental Health and ability to structure programming accordingly. Superior verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy. Comfortable with ambiguity and able to provide creative service delivery. Valid driver's license, current Driver's Abstract, and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance. Successful candidate must complete a Police Check including Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check (can be obtained with our help upon hire).

Reporting Relationship


This position reports directly to the Program Manager of the Chestermere and Strathmore Hub.
