Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree
in Graphic Design, Typography, Visual Communication, or a closely related creative discipline.
Minimum five (5) years of relevant industry experience
in typography, graphic design, publication design, or related areas demonstrating a strong typographic foundation.
Demonstrated teaching experience
at the post-secondary level ora clear commitment to developing teaching skills, including willingness to complete BCIT's
Polytechnic Teaching Certificate (
PTC
)
if not already held.
Proficiency with industry-standard design tools
, including Adobe InDesign and related applications used for typographic and layout work.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
, with the ability to explain concepts clearly, provide constructive critique, and support diverse learners.
Evidence of professional engagement with the design industry
, such as client work, studio practice, freelance work, or participation in professional organizations.
Ability to work collaboratively
with faculty and staff in a fast-paced, team-oriented academic environment.

, digital typesetting, variable fonts, and accessibility considerations in typographic design.
Strong organizational and classroom management skills
, including the ability to guide critiques and evaluate student work effectively and fairly.
Experience developing instructional materials
, assignments, or assessments aligned with program learning outcomes.
Active involvement in the design community
, such as attending conferences, professional development workshops, or participating in professional workshops, or participating in professional organizations.
Ability to integrate real-world examples
from industry practice to enhance student learning and career readiness.
