Job Description


Reporting to the Vice-President, Academic and Research (VPAR), the Faculty Relations Officer is responsible to provide expert advice that supports the strategic direction of the University, as it relates to academic staff relations. This position will provide support in the administration of the Faculty Association collective agreements. This includes interpretation, application and administration of all activities related to the collective agreements. This position is expected to monitor trends and changes both internally and externally, including legal and regulatory compliance processes, and to identify potential changes and adjustments to UPEI\'s academic staff practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In consultation with and under the general direction of the Vice-President, Academic and Research, the Faculty Relations Officer has the following responsibilities.

Collective Agreement Compliance, Administration and Reporting

  • Monitor compliance with the academic collective agreements (FA#1 and FA#2) and provide advice and support to the VPAR and academic administrators regarding the administration of these agreements
  • Oversee and administer the faculty grievance process and participate in labour management joint committee and negotiations as required
  • Prepare statistical reporting
  • Arrange, coordinate, and assist with leadership management training, annual workshops and orientation sessions for senior management, the University Review Committee, Deans, Department Chairs, faculty members and administrative staff as it relates to the administration of the collective agreements
  • Maintain seniority lists and administer professional development travel reimbursement allowances
Faculty Appointments
  • Maintain and advise on the academic recruitment, selection guidelines and recruitment processes to ensure compliance and accurate documentation for presentation to the Board of Governors
  • Coordinate and administer all aspects of faculty hiring in the collective agreement and provide support to hiring committees to ensure compliance with the collective agreement, employment/immigration requirements and Board of Governors requirements
  • Draft all letters of offer
  • Process and maintain documentation related to immigration status and eligibility to work in Canada
  • Track all faculty related leaves, reduced appointments, or special assignment
Tenure, Promotion and Sabbatical
  • Coordinate and administer all aspects of the tenure, promotion and sabbatical review processes
  • Draft all correspondence with respect to tenure, promotion, sabbatical and other leaves
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, preferably related to labour relations
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of directly related experience in labour relations and/or human resources. Experience at a university will be considered an asset
  • Effective organizational, problem-solving, planning, and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills
