Position Details


The Department of

Mathematics and Computer Science

invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor with a start date of July 1st, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Hiring salary will be in the range of $79,132 to $98,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment and be developing a research program in Mathematics, which is expected to attract external funding. The department is primarily interested in applicants whose area of expertise is Data Science, Modelling or Applied Mathematics, though other areas may be considered in exceptional circumstances. Potential departments and programs for collaboration at the University include Data Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Economics, Geography & Environment, Kinesiology & Physical Education, Mathematics & Computer Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, Faculty of Health Sciences and the Dhillon School of Business. Candidates are invited to share their interest and capability to work or collaborate with any of these groups or with Industry.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of Mathematics courses offered by our department. As such, experience with both large service courses as well as more senior courses is valued. An interest in curriculum development, particularly related to their area of expertise, would be an asset.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has an enthusiastic group of faculty members and postdoctoral fellows in the areas of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. The programs offered by the department include Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Computer Science and Applied Statistics. The University has a strong focus on experiential learning, and undergraduate student research is often funded by NSERC or other internal scholarship opportunities. The University is part of the Pacific Institute for Mathematical Sciences, which provides funding opportunities for workshops, seminars, outreach activities and various other programs.

A letter of application.

A curriculum vitae, which should include, if applicable, any mentorship or other relevant activities outside of academia.

A brief description of the proposed research program (3 pages). Where possible, this should highlight any opportunities for student involvement.

A statement of teaching interests and philosophy (2 pages), as well as brief outlines of courses previously taught.

November 15th, 2025.

At least one of these should directly address teaching capabilities, and at least one should directly assess the prospective research plan.

A statement (1-2 pages) that describes any current or planned activities and contributions made to inclusive practices in academic (including both research and teaching), professional, or community contexts.
