The City of Medicine Hat is seeking reliable, customer-focused individuals to join our team as a Facility Worker I. In this role, you'll help ensure our community facilities are safe, clean, and event ready. From setting up and supporting events to assisting patrons and performing minor maintenance, you'll be part of a team that delivers welcoming spaces and great experiences for residents and visitors.
This is a temporary casual position with no guaranteed weekly hours, but it's also a great opportunity, whether you're looking to get more involved in the community, or seeking a starting point to gain valuable experience and build toward long-term career growth.
Your key responsibilities

  • Set up and take down equipment and staging for events, performances, and programs.
  • Provide customer service to patrons, staff, and event organizers.
  • Perform cleaning duties, minor building repairs, and maintenance tasks.
  • Support technical and audio-visual needs for events.
  • Monitor facility security and ensure the safety and orderly conduct of users.
  • Carry out exterior tasks such as snow sweeping and plant watering.
  • Complete inspections, receive inventory, and report needed repairs.

  • Knowledge of custodial practices, general maintenance, and building operations.
  • Basic technical and computer skills, including audio-visual troubleshooting.
  • Comfort working at heights (up to 50 feet), in confined spaces, and performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Commitment to safety, security, and excellent service.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, as we cannot provide a set schedule or guarantee a specific number of hours.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum six(6) months of experience in building security, maintenance, or custodial work.
  • Training or experience in hospitality, customer service, theatre, arts, or museum work is considered an asset.
  • Certifications in the following or a willingness to obtain:
  • Forklift
  • Fall Protection
  • Elevating Work Platforms
  • Standard First Aid
  • ProServe
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
