To maintain a comfortable, safe, and aesthetic environment for residents, staff, and visitors. Responsible for day-to-day facilities maintenance, preventative maintenance, general up-keep and repairs of all PHM-owned buildings (within scope), equipment, and Butternut grounds. All work must be carried out in accordance with health and safety policies and procedures and Fire Code to ensure the safety of residents and staff.

Responsibilities



Check Maintenance Care system several times daily for priority requests and active tickets. Respond to the maintenance work requests and record the repairs. Complete routine maintenance/preventative maintenance to all group home locations and equipment (e.g. painting, installing shelves, fixing walls, hanging items, fixing lighting, fixing beds and wheelchairs, equipment repairs, minor plumbing repairs (clogs, loose fixtures), etc., using various hand and power tools. Perform routine housekeeping alongside the team: Assist with garbage and waste collection and disposal. Sweep floors including after dinner. Buff and wax BN facility floor per posted schedule. Clean up after spills and leaks. Tend to the Butternut outside grounds daily (at a minimum once per day) Check property for debris and garbage. Collect garbage. Sweep entrances and walkways and keep clean from debris. Perform groundskeeping by maintaining courtyard softscape at BN (landscaping, gardening, water lawn and garden areas as required; trim trees, bushes and hedges using appropriate garden tools; courtyard cleaning, water flowerpots and plants around the property; sweep garden area; maintain outdoor seating area) Report issues and concerns to the Manager. In winter season - snow removal and salt application on walkways and entrances including emergency exits. Receive deliveries at loading docks as required. Maintain HVAC equipment within scope and complete minor repairs as needed (replace filters and belts per schedule) Support the Facilities Manager with monitoring and maintaining the Butternut building infrastructure (e.g. pumps in boiler room and pool room, pool maintenance, leaks throughout the building, etc.) Accompany and assist Contractors when on site as required. Maintain cleaning inventory, place orders for new products when needed and as requested. Report building and equipment repairs, and any unsafe conditions and call appropriate services in conjunction with the Manager. Submit concerns in Maintenance Care and identify trends to the Manager. Support the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Program, making health and safety a part of the daily routine, ensure all work practices follow safe work methods and complying with relevant legislation. Support with checking the functionality of safety systems (e.g. fire alarm) Assist with emergency and evacuation procedures, as required. Assist with special events duties, as requested.

Qualifications



Prior experience in general facility maintenance (or general construction skills an asset). Strong knowledge of building maintenance and repair techniques an asset. Post Secondary Diploma/Certificate in related field is considered an asset. Knowledgeable and experienced with commercial building maintenance; heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC) system; life safety system such as fire alarm system and fire suppression and protection system an asset. Exposure to healthcare environment is an asset. Ability to work comfortably at heights and adhere to strict safety procedures. Proficient in operating hand and power tools safely and efficiently. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work with minimum supervision, manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well within a team. Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects. Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
