The Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Manager Operations, the Facilities Technician is responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of APC buildings ensuring their functionality, efficiency, and safety. The Facilities Technician functions as a resource specialist providing support and technical expertise to APC's operations related to maintenance, grounds and facilities, so the Operations Department can continue the delivery of highly professional, effective and efficient operational results.
The Facilities Technician is responsible for day-to-day coordination of ongoing preventive maintenance and repair work on buildings and their mechanical, electrical and other installed systems, including fire and security alarms. This position manages contractors' activities on-site to ensure ongoing maintenance, renovation, renewal, and construction projects are effective and efficient, organized, well communicated to all stakeholders, comply with building regulations and meet legal requirements. The Facilities Technician provides facility specific recommendations and advice as needed and acts as a point of contact for facility related emergencies, which may require evening and weekend work.
Required Qualifications
• Diploma / Certificate in Building Technology, Facility Management, or related field.
• Valid Class 5 driver's license.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience working with building technology in a commercial, hospitality or institutional sectors.
• Solid technical background in construction and maintenance of buildings and equipments, including electrical, plumbing, framing, masonry, HVAC and other building infrastructure.
• Proven ability to read and craft detailed building specifications and construction drawings.
• Experience generating 3-D renderings would be an asset.
• Experience with GIS systems and mapping would be an asset.
• Strong problem-solving, time management and organizational skills, with excellent attention to details.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Salary: starting at $45,000, dependent on experience.
