THE OPPORTUNITY
Campfire Circle is currently seeking a Facilities Staff to join our Muskoka Facilities team. This role contributes to ensuring the year-round camp facility is in quality condition, safely operated and maintained, in order to maximize the effective use by campers, volunteers, staff and additional groups involved in the organization's programs and services. Please note, this is a contract opportunity from June 2025 to December 2025.
The Key Accountabilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
1. Housekeeping:
a) Perform regular cleaning and sanitation of the site buildings, furnishings and fixtures, ensuring a safe, healthy and clean environment.
b) On-going housekeeping maintenance year-round with deep cleaning and inspections occurring between programs and rentals.
c) Organize and replenish stock and supplies in housekeeping storerooms as needed
d) Uphold standard operating procedures and protocols for cleaning.
e) Support the training and coaching of casual housekeeping and maintenance staff.
2. Planning & Coordination:
a) Assist management with the planning and coordination of an annual schedule for site maintenance and repair establishing preventative maintenance (PM) tasks & protocols for site systems and facilities, and documenting in the maintenance software system..
b) Assist management with planning and coordination of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly annual work lists, asset management and work orders.
c) Actively monitor, participate and report on/contribute to health and safety & emergency management programs.
d) Document and report observations, activities, hazards, findings; with particular attention to those that fall under Acts, Regulations and Policies.
e) Support management with identifying and facilitating site work and repairs by sub-contractors and suppliers, including completion of Work Orders.
3. Site Maintenance & Repair:
a) Maintain, protect and inspect all equipment, reporting hazards to management immediately.
b) Monitor and assist tasks / duties associated with the upkeep, maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, equipment and facilities. This includes but is not limited to:
i. All buildings and their integral systems (electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, communications, emergency systems, structural, waste management).
ii. Site potable water, water systems and wastewater systems.
iii. Vehicles, tractors, boats, UTVs, snow removal equipment, all tools and equipment.
iv. Grounds, roads, pathways, greenspaces, gardens, trails, forest, docks, decks, etc.
c) Support the operation, monitoring, maintenance, repair, sampling, testing, forecasting trends, security and reporting of the drinking water systems alongside regulations and procedures.
d) Promote a healthy and safe workplace culture and adhere to health and safety requirements.
ABOUT YOU
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Criteria:
a) Post-secondary school education required, or equivalent experience.
b) Ability to work with a team and independently.
c) Experience performing the tasks associated with facilities and maintenance work
d) A competent understanding of construction, electrical, plumbing and septic, water and other systems; & able to clearly communicate with associated suppliers / contractors
e) A basic understanding of the Ontario Building Code.
f) An aptitude for the operation and maintenance of camp tools/equipment/ machinery
g) General knowledge of seasonal landscaping methods, needs and care.
h) Comfort with daily computer & mobile device use, including MS Office & digital applications.
i) Clear police reference check and vulnerable sector screening
j) Current G2 or G class driver's license and the ability to be covered by camp's insurance policy.
Advantageous Criteria:
a) Strong working knowledge of small drinking water treatment systems/wastewater systems and current certification as a Small Drinking Water Systems Operator (or readiness to obtain and maintain that certification).
b) Experience in a camp or resort setting.
c) WHMIS certification
d) Standard First Aid / CPR C
e) Chainsaw Operator training
f) Working at Heights certification
g) Basic Health & Safety certifications
h) Ontario Pleasure Craft Operator Card
In accordance with our mandate of creating a caring and safe environment for ill children and their families, we require that all staff must provide an attestation to having received their childhood vaccinations, and confirmation of a negative result in a two-step Tuberculosis ("TB") testing series. Seasonal boosters against Influenza and the most recent circulating strain of COVID are strongly encouraged. All staff must provide an updated Police Record with Vulnerable Sector Screening. We also require that all staff be currently eligible to work in Canada and for Campfire Circle.
WORKING CONDITIONS
a) Due to the nature of the work and responsibilities, reside no further than one hour's safe-driving distance from the facility (Rosseau, Ontario).
b) Shared responsibility of weekend services to individuals on site.
c) Shares responsibility of 24-hour on-call services to individuals on site.
d) Work in narrow, confined and enclosed spaces.
e) Work in conditions that include, or will create, dirt and dust.
f) Work outdoors through all seasons and weather conditions.
g) Working outside for long periods of time.
h) Due to the nature of the role a flexible schedule is required, with potential for evening, weekend, and holiday work.
i) In consideration of the population we serve, the incumbent is a non-smoker
j) Must be willing to travel to occasional meetings or training sessions.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This position offers a competitive annual salary range of $48,000 - 50,000. In addition, Campfire Circle is invested in our staff's health, wellness and career growth. As part of the total compensation package for this role, we offer a wellness benefit up to $500 annually, paid vacation time plus a paid winter shutdown period up to eight days, flexible hybrid work arrangements, and on-going professional development.
