Nechako Lakes School District is nestled in the heart of north-central British Columbia, serving the diverse and welcoming communities of Fort St. James, Vanderhoof, Fraser Lake, Burns Lake, and Granisle. The district is home to approximately 2,850 students in our local schools, as well as 900 full-time equivalent learners enrolled in EBUS Academy, one of the largest and most established online schools in the province.

THE POSITION:




Reporting to the Assistant Secretary Treasurer, the successful candidate will have an outstanding ability to organize and prioritize District work, multitask, and manage a high-paced workload. The candidate will have strong employee management skills and strong interpersonal skills when working with all employee groups and the public. Additionally, they will have a strong track record of team building, effective communication and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a diverse school district environment.


KEY DUTIES

AND

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Organize, direct, and supervise the tasks and work of the Facilities Department, including trade coordinators, certified trades, operators, labour and other maintenance staff. Plan and manage the maintenance, repairs and alterations for district facilities and grounds as well as all district facility systems: grounds, structural, mechanical, and electrical. Plan and manage district projects, small and large, from different funding sources. Implement approved policies, procedures, and systems under the direction of the Assistant Secretary Treasurer or designate, including systems design standards, compliance with safety regulations and other government legislation. Establish training requirements and on the job evaluation routines. Support in the development and implement the department's strategic and operational plans. Develop annual operating budgets and forecasts; monitor departmental budgets, reports on variances, including reports to Board Standing Committees. Liaise with district administrators on matters relating to labour relations, staff training, building and grounds maintenance, minor alterations, educational functional improvements, and recoverable work requests. Participate in a consultative process with facility users, designers, management, and city officials during the planning phase of projects. Attend events and emergencies outside regular work hours, as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

Understanding of grounds, structural, mechanical and electrical systems. Knowledge and experience in facility and grounds maintenance. Experience scheduling, managing, and supervising within a large, unionized environment. Experience in the preparation of project tenders, project estimates, and management of project budgets. Ability to ensure that repairs and projects are completed on scope, schedule, and budget. Comprehensive knowledge of building codes and by-laws, safety regulations and other relevant local, provincial and federal government regulations. Commitment to ongoing learning and advancing Truth and Reconciliation Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications. Strong analytical and report writing skills with the ability to read and understand drawings and specifications Exceptional skills in management, interpersonal communication, negotiation, and dispute resolution. Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, school administrators and maintenance staff, consultants, city and provincial inspectors and others.

QUALIFICATIONS

AND

EXPERIENCE:

Post Secondary education related to Facilities Management or equivalent. Current BC or interprovincial certification in a relevant trade with relevant experience will also be considered. Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a similar role, with at least three recent years in facilities or project management, including 2 years in a management/leadership role. Valid BC Driver's License with good driving record. Successful applicants will be required to consent to a Criminal Record Search before employment.

COMPENSATION:

Current salary range - $94,774 - $118,467 Moving reimbursement Excellent benefits based on the provincial exempt package
