Main Street Project (MSP) is a community health Centre with a mandate to address the social determinants of health which give rise to issues of addiction, physical and mental health issues and homelessness. MSP uses housing-first and harm reduction principles in the provision of a safe, respectful and accessible place for individuals who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in the community. Since 1972, MSP has been providing a range of services to Winnipeg's most marginalized residents, including emergency shelter and nutrition services, drug and alcohol withdrawal management services, health advocacy and support, case management services, housing support services, food bank services and a mobile community outreach program.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Worker position ensures that Main Street Project (MSP) buildings, both interior and exterior are always kept clean and in good repair, which includes snow removal, ice-sanding, completing ongoing maintenance requirements including preventative maintenance reviews and notifying Director of Operations of required repairs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with supply ordering, including moving supplies between different sites and restocking as needed
Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors
Notify Director of the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
Snow removal and ice-sanding
Moving of furniture, donations and deliveries as requested
Minor maintenance including, but not limited to:
Minor plumbing issues (e.g. unclogging drains, etc.)
Simple Carpentry (e.g. dry wall patching, door replacement, etc.)
Painting
Removal/installation/assembly of furniture and fixtures
Evaluation of repairs to assist in determining the need for external contractors
Participate in the development of and execution of Preventative Maintenance Plans for MSP locations
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with and knowledge of electrical systems, HVAC systems, Plumbing and other basic repair tasks
Experience with tools and other types of equipment
Reliable, punctual, and dependable in fulfilling position obligations
Attention to detail and ability to complete tasks
Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changing needs and tasks
Ability to take initiative beyond the scope of assigned daily and weekly tasks to meet the needs of the department Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Customer Service skills, ability to interact professionally with staff, visitors, clients and management
Working knowledge of basic computer skills (i.e. Outlook)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
Ability to handle and move objects - Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning and moving materials, ability to lift 50lbs or more
Exposure to biohazards including but not limited to blood, bodily fluids, and syringes
Ability to work with vulnerable populations and individuals who use substances and/or experience mental health issues
Comfortable working in environment where Indigenous ceremonies and practices are actively taking place including Smudging
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required. The candidate/employee is responsible for any service charges incurred.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License
