The Town of Lynn Lake is currently accepting applications for the position of Facilities Maintainer (Arena & Municipal Facilities). This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer. The Facilities Maintainer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and general upkeep of the municipality's recreation and community facilities, with a primary focus on the arena and ice-making systems, while also supporting the maintenance of other municipal buildings such as the Town Office, Public Works Shop, and other town facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain arena refrigeration and ice-making systems, including ice resurfacer (Zamboni), edging, and related equipment.
Install, monitor, and maintain quality ice surfaces for user groups, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Conduct seasonal changeovers (ice-in and ice-out) to prepare for year-round facility use.
Maintain arena systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting) and perform preventative maintenance.
Ensure cleanliness and safety of all public areas, including dressing rooms, washrooms, lobby, and stands.
Perform general maintenance and minor repairs at municipal buildings such as the Town Office, Public Works Shop, and others.
Maintain grounds and building exteriors, including snow clearing and lawn care.
Supervise and provide direction to staff, ensuring work quality and safety.
Assist with setup/teardown for community events and facility rentals.
Follow Town safety protocols and maintain inspection logs as required.
Respond to emergencies (equipment breakdowns, ice plant issues, etc.).
Perform other duties as assigned that support municipal facility operations and maintenance.
Qualifications & Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Training in facility operations, building maintenance, or refrigeration is an asset.
Arena Operator/Refrigeration certification (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe).
2-3 years of experience in arena operations, ice-making, or facility maintenance preferred.
Experience operating an ice resurfacer (Zamboni or equivalent).
Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration).
Basic carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical skills.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to supervise casual or part-time staff effectively.
Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours during arena season.
Physically capable of performing manual labour and working in cold environments.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $18.00-$27.00 per hour
