Job Description


Our client, a major oil and gas producer, is looking for a Facilities Engineer based out their head office in downtown Calgary, AB. This is a 12-18 month maternity leave position and on a 5/2 schedule. The selected candidate should have a thorough understanding of the overall operation of a SAGD facility and the leadership and personal skills to work and coordinate with the System Leads across organizational boundaries.
This is an excellent position for an engineer who is interested in multi-disciplinary scope, has effective communication skills and who would like to expand his/her areas of expertise in operations.

Key Areas of Expertise:

  • In depth knowledge of piping design, valve specification, and general knowledge in mechanical equipment and packages - Pressure Vessels, Tanks, Heat Exchangers, Towers, Flares, Fired Heaters, Compressor packages, Instrument Air packages - etc.
  • Experience in rotating equipment is an asset but not a requirement
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards - ASME B31.3/B31.1, ASME BPVC, CSA Z662, API 650, API 579, ASME PCC-1/2, TEMA
  • Experience in stress analysis and use of CAESAR II software is an asset
  • Experience in other design software\'s such as PV Elite, Compress, Tank, HTRI, an asset but not a requirement
  • Experienced with supporting small inhouse MOC\'s with piping design, piping stress analysis, and other general mechanical scopes
  • Troubleshooting operational issues with valves, equipment, piping, pipelines, etc.
  • Supporting capital projects in assurance activities of 3rd party deliverables and design development - PID , mechanical equipment list/datasheets, material selection diagrams, specialty item ConocoPhillips Canada (CPC) is currently recruiting an Integrated Facilities Engineer to report to the Calgary based Production Delivery Team Lead in our Oil Sands Operations. The PDT Integrated Facilities Engineer will be responsible for a wide spectrum of integrated tasks within the team ranging from short and long-term asset forecasting, integrated planning optimization, asset operation KPI surveillance, and production performance. .
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Production Delivery and Optimization (< 120 days)
o Liaison between Facility Engineering, Asset Integrity, Operations (RPM, Maintenance), MMP, Automation & IT, and P&O team.
o Support teams with 28-day Integrated Plan facility break-in scope to ensure potential production impacts are evaluated.
o Maintain and optimize 120-day OTSG Schedule based on production forecast.
o Responsible for developing the production profiles utilizing the OTSG schedule, well forecasts and Integrated Plan (<120D).
  • Production Forecasting (< 24 months)
o OTSG Schedule
  • Key stakeholder in the development of the annual OTSG outage program
  • Lead the Surmont Steam Strategy Team in cost benefit analyses of incremental steam vs GHG impact and recommendation on Steam Strategy to SALT.
o Identify opportunities to optimize and shelter outages occurring on the same equipment
o Identify and make long term water balance risks (> 120d) more visible.
  • Champion the use of Data Analytics tools to optimize plant performance.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Support Facility Engineers on performance, planning, optimization, and development of PD Operational Plans.
  • Support Facility Engineers with an asset wide perspective of production focused actions for work prioritization.
  • Provide coverage for the Field Production Optimization Engineer (field based), Sales and Blending Engineer and PD Production Engineer.
  • Active participant of Asset Event Management when unforeseen facility events occur.
Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with 5 years in oil/gas engineering role.
  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • A self-starter, willing to work independently and across organizational boundaries.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Fort McMurray for field site visits.
