Job Title: Facilities and Space Planner

: Under the guidance of senior Facilities personnel or designated Project Manager, the Facilities and Space Planner is responsible for preparing architectural drawings and providing technical design support for renovation and capital projects. This position is also responsible for overseeing assigned renovation projects, assuming project coordination that include planning, cost estimation, scheduling, field inspections, and liaising with trades and vendors. Additionally, this position maintains architectural drawings and project records. Performs other related duties or ad hoc projects, as required.

Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience

  • Successful completion of a two-year diploma in Architectural and Building Technology or equivalent architectural program.
  • Certification in Project Management Professional (PMP) or Associate in Program Management (CAPM), an asset.
  • Minimum four (4) years of recent work experience as an Architectural Technologist or Facilities and Space Planner, with project field coordination.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Proficiency and considerable experience in the use of AutoCAD (latest version), Revit, and other commonly used design software.
  • Practical experience in architectural design and project coordination; design development, construction drawings, and coordinating building projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in scheduling and coordinating the work of various consultants (architects, engineers, etc.) and contractors (electricians, plumbers, etc.) for renovation projects and installations.
  • Experience working with end-users in translating program requirements into functional designs within framework of corporate policies and construction regulations.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, health and safety, and work safe regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of ergonomic design an asset.


Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and file architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to conduct thorough visual inspections of building facilities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and students to define and clarify user needs.
  • Ability to meet and effectively deal with and provide information, assistance and related services to the public, faculty, staff, contractors and students.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to follow established departmental, College, and governmental regulations, codes, policies, and procedures.
  • Effective organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Intermediate level computer skills including: keyboarding at 45 wpm, word processing and data entry skills, spreadsheet development, database, and e-mail management.


Hours & Days of Work: 8:30am-4:45pm, Monday through Friday

Salary Range: $35.26 - $40.57 per hour

Pay Grade: CUPE Paygrade 26

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 35
