Your opportunity:
The Koffler Scientific Reserve (KSR) at Jokers Hill on the Oak Ridges Moraine in King Township is a nationally recognized site dedicated to cutting-edge research and education in biodiversity, ecology, and conservation biology. As a living laboratory, it offers unique opportunities to study and protect native flora and fauna, foster a deeper connection to nature, and contribute valuable insights to global conservation efforts.
Reporting to the Director, KSR and general supervision of the Station Manager, this position will be responsible for performing routine building inspections and handling minor repairs including equipment repairs, acting as the first point of contact for property service requirements, supporting research services such as GPS mapping, data entry and organizing events. The incumbent will require to live on-site to ensure timelyand effective support.
Your responsibilities will include:
Conducting routine building inspections
Identifying and reporting facility repair and/or maintenance needs
Handling minor repairs
Troubleshooting and resolving routine maintenance requests
Maintaining roadways, paths and trails in safe conditions
Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries
Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
Collaborating on cost estimates
Essential Qualifications:
College Diploma (2 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
Minimum three years of related and recent experience in supporting space, facility maintenance, and operation in a biology field station operation.
Experience conducting minor maintenance.
Experience liaising with contractors to ensure work is completed and tracked.
Experience assessing facilities issues and making minor repairs.
Must have a valid 'G' class drivers license and an Operation of Small Drinking Water Systems certification.
Experience operating and maintaining tools and equipment such as mowers, shovels, rakes, and small utility vehicles.
Knowledge of trail systems including sidewalks and road access, and residential facility maintenance.
Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work including lifting, carrying, digging, and using hand and power tools.
Experience creating maps using QGIS
Demonstrated problem-solving skills
Ability to clearly communicate to students, faculty members and researchers regarding maintenance related issues.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills
Assets (Nonessential):
Previous experience in landscaping, forestry, or outdoor labour considered an asset.
