SCOPE

Reporting to Director, Office of the Dean and Faculty Operations and functionally to the Associate Dean, Academic Programs and Pedagogy, the incumbent works extensively with the Associate Dean to ensure the portfolio of academic programs, pedagogical initiatives, and student affairs is administered effectively. The incumbent is the Faculty\'s administrative lead on the research, development, revision, and evaluation of the Faculty of Fine Arts (FoFA) academic programs, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They provide strategic, administrative and project management leadership to ensure alignment with Faculty priorities for equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI), accessibility and sustainability, as these relate to anti-racist, decolonized curriculum and pedagogical practices.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate development of curriculum proposals by working with departments to design curriculum, explore models and pathways to education, as well as define learning and skill objectives for programs. Evaluate and analyze complex information found in detailed curriculum proposals; draft reports and executive summaries in English and French; make recommendations for new programs and complex curriculum changes; identify best practices in pedagogy and current developments. Continuously improve the curriculum development processes to ensure alignment with Faculty and unit priorities; advise departments in effective methods as required.
  • Verify that each curriculum proposal is complete and meets required criteria for approval. Consult with Faculty managers to scope resource implications (Budget, HR, IT, Student Academic Services, and Facilities). Oversee market assessments and benchmarking research.
  • Guide documentation of Faculty curriculum proposals and move them though the University approval process, through liaison with various university bodies such as Faculty of Fine Arts Faculty Council, the Academic Programs Committee (APC), School of Graduate Studies, Continuing Education and Senate.
  • Provide logistical and organizational support to the Faculty Curriculum Committee (FCC) meetings and prepare reports as required by Associate Dean regarding curriculum process. Liaise with and coordinate any follow-up on behalf of FCC with departments and/or other university offices.
  • Keep current on and advise the Associate Dean on curriculum innovations, anti-racist and inclusive pedagogy, decolonizing and Indigenizing principles, sustainability and accessibility initiatives, etc.
  • Act as recording and administrative secretary for ad-hoc and regular meetings; action items arising from these meetings.
  • Coordinate development of Summer Field Schools for Fine Arts; collaborate extensively with Concordia International (CI), Student Academic Services (SAS) and Facilities; oversee distribution of and communication with students about Field School Awards, and draft annual report for donor.
  • Coordinate evaluation of new program proposals or reviews/appraisals of existing programs; develop agenda, establish and fulfill meeting requirements and in collaboration with Provincial government and other government bodies.
  • Coordinate academic appraisal of all academic units in the Faculty of Fine Arts. Advise departments on development and maintenance of files and documents. Determine optimum course of action to facilitate process, ensuring that deadlines and requirements are met.
  • Represent the Faculty on the University Retroactive Withdrawal Committee and liaise with Faculty level Student Request Committee by participating in meetings and reporting outcomes, advising on rationale as needed.
  • Administer undergraduate Academic Code of Conduct cases. Analyze academic code cases and manage timelines, communicate with students and book meetings. Follow up on cases and track the cases to see that grades are submitted.
  • Lead specific projects and events, or perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor\'s degree in a field related to the primary responsibilities and two to four years of relevant experience, preferably in a university or comparable institution.
  • Graduate degree in a related field desirable.
  • Advanced knowledge of curriculum and academic programs, including teaching and curriculum innovations, anti-racist and inclusive pedagogy, decolonizing and Indigenizing principles, and sustainability.
  • Experience in communicating arts-based pedagogy and curriculum needs (at undergraduate and graduate level) into tangible requests (either to government agencies, special initiatives, non-arts based units)
  • Very good knowledge (Level 5) spoken and written English and French. Ability to read and write fluently in order to communicate with government offices on complex curriculum proposals, advocate for decisions, interpret rulings, and understand pedagogical nature of curriculum structure.
  • Advanced knowledge of Office365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Proven communication, diplomacy and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management experience; demonstrated ability to move multi-stakeholder, cross-departmental initiatives forward.
  • Experience scoping project requirements, preparing budgets, mapping milestones and critical paths, and writing proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information from a wide variety of sources.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines; able to manage simultaneous competing initiatives in a variety of dossiers, demonstrated initiative and follow-up.
  • Excellent reviewing and editing skills; meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience with curriculum management software is an asset.
