JOB OVERVIEW: EXTENSION ASSISTANT

The Extension Assistant Field Staff at the KPU Farm Schools Program will assist in seasonal field work including harvesting, weeding, crop maintenance, and various other field tasks. As an education farm dedicated to regenerative farming practices and local food systems, this position requires someone who is passionate about regenerative agriculture, building local food systems, and food systems education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing day-to-day farm tasks including transplanting, harvesting, post processing, weeding and seeding, farm site cleaning
  • Ensuring that farm irrigation system, equipment, tools are well maintained in working order
  • Attend weekly meeting and provide updates to the Director and other team members
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2+ years farm experience
  • A keen interest in small-scale, regenerative agriculture
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience leading students and volunteers
  • Physical ability to lift 45lbs repeatedly
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work outside in all weather
  • Interest in working with a diversity of people
  • Valid First Aid Certificate an asset
  • Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
  • Access to a vehicle for commuting to and from the farm is an asset
