SSR Mining - Seabee Gold Operation (SGO) is hiring for an Exploration Summer Student.
About Your New Role:
Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Exploration Summer Student is responsible for assisting the Exploration Geologist(s) in operating field camps and drill/field programs by soil sampling, prospecting, geological mapping, logging drill core, data management, sample preparation, and participating in safety activities/meetings. The role may be based out of the SGO minesite or other remote exploration camps.
Your Key Responsibilities:• Traversing through a remote bush environment while undertaking geological sampling
• Orienteering with GPS/compass to navigate traverse lines
• Collecting and recording high quality geological samples including soil, till and rock for geochemical analysis
• Core box handling (estimated 50-70 lbs per box)
• Core teching and cutting
• Assisting Exploration Geologists with geological mapping and core logging
• Sample preparation for accurate tracking and shipment to laboratories
• Additional tasks as required
• Maintain a clean working area
• Inspect equipment and inform supervisor if maintenance and/or new tools are required
• Keep inventory of consumables and report to supervisor when supplies are running low
• Adhere to established health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures
Your Knowledge and Skills:• Ability to handle the physical nature of field work (hiking with a pack weighing up to 50lbs in rough terrain for the duration of the workday)
• Ability to lift 70lbs and occasionally more with assistance of another employee
• Ability to work in noisy, dusty environment with protective equipment on
• Strong attention to fine detail
• Competence in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to work well with other employees in a team setting
• Willingness and disposition to live in a remote camp setting
Your Education and Experience:
The successful candidate will have:• Bachelor's degree in geology or current enrollment in a post-secondary geoscience program.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and Pleasure Craft Operators' Card
• Up to date First Aid training is required, or may be provided
• Previous experience working in remote environments is an asset
• Previous core teching and cutting experience is an asset
• Previous exploration fieldwork experience is an asset
About Our Working Conditions:
The position has a schedule of two weeks on-site followed by two weeks off-site. The two weeks on-site involve 11-hour workdays, whereas the two weeks off-site are time off. Occasional flexibility may be required to do shorter or longer on-site shifts up to a maximum of four weeks.
The Seabee Gold Operation and other Exploration camps are remote with fly in fly out access. Pickup points are in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and La Ronge.
