Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.
The Port Colborne Refinery was also commissioned 100 years ago on the shore of Lake Erie. Raw materials and finished products from Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Sudbury and Newfoundland and Labrador operations are transported to Port Colborne for processing.
Our Team
The Exploration team is responsible for replacing resources that are removed through mining and improving resources by developing a pipeline of projects at various stages. The Sudbury Geophysics team is fully integrated with Geologists to support the Sudbury Basin Base Metals (Nickel and Copper) Exploration Program. Geological knowledge and existing geophysical data are used to identify prospective areas and targets with follow-up achieved by the Geophysics team through additional geophysical field surveys (both in-house and contractor) to acquire data. After the data is checked for quality, the Geophysics team processes and interprets the data to add important information. Ultimately, diamond drill holes, often directed by information provided by the Geophysics team, are used to confirm target locations and details.
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Exploration Student for Fall 2023 to join our Geophysics team in Sudbury. This is a fixed term 4-month position.
