The Opportunity:

As a Thermal Exploitation or Reservoir Engineer for the Jackfish asset, you have an opportunity to be a key player in a dynamic, collaborative team of professionals focused on optimizing and expanding our SAGD production in an area with vast growth potential. Working with a multi-disciplinary team of geoscientists, production engineers and other company professionals, you will use your proven subsurface engineering and field operations experience to deliver technical and economic evaluations that will influence the company\xe2\x80\x99s existing and future assets. Working closely with office and field staff, you will collaborate to identify, justify, recommend and implement optimized recovery methods that ultimately focus on maintaining and growing production, in an environmentally sustainable way.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work in a team environment to identify opportunities and create SAGD depletion and/or development plans to maximize the net present value (NPV) of the project
  • Responsible to incorporate field data, first principles, analytical/numerical methods to ensure sound technical solutions
  • Responsible for monitoring and optimization of the reservoir performance and recovery strategies for our SAGD assets
  • Evaluate and justify new projects for senior management approval, including scheduling and economic analysis of the investment opportunity for redrills and pad add projects
  • Design and justify potential workovers, steam and depletion plans, operational and reservoir targets to improve process and create value
  • Maintain and update monthly and annual production forecasts for thermal wells using various empirical, analytical and reservoir simulation methods, including input into budget and 10 year plan forecasts
  • Ensure relevant regulatory and environmental requirements are incorporated in the development plans for the asset
  • Calculate, maintain and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the corporate reserves for your asset
  • Provide effective regular project updates and technical evaluation reports for senior management
  • Lead and participate in best-practice and competitor analysis studies to support the continuous improvement of our thermal business

  • Shift schedule: 5x2 - Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day

Skills & Qualifications:
  • 2 to 8 years of petroleum / reservoir engineering experience with a B.Sc. in Engineering
  • Demonstrated problem solving, communication, organization and leadership skills
  • Familiar with the design and operations of SAGD assets
  • Basic knowledge of related disciplines geology, production, drilling / completions and facilities engineering
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
  • Familiarity with data analytics and visualization methods / software would be an asset (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Pyhton)
  • For Exploitation role, practical experience with economic analysis and project management would be an advantage
  • For Reservoir role, practical in thermal numerical reservoir simulation using CMG (STARS, BUILDER, RESULTS) or SLB (IX, Petrel-RE) suites would be an advantage
