Position Description
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Extracurricular Programs, the Experiential Learning Manager, Science Camps is an energetic and self-motivated person who manages Science World's onsite camps program. The successful candidate demonstrates a sense of playful curiosity combined with a strong background in developing and delivering programs that fire the imaginations of a wide variety of audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Hire, train, and manage staff for Science World's onsite science camp programs
Manage registration (including bursary programs) and customer interactions for Science World camps
Support the Camps Experiential Learning Specialist to create, document and evaluate new camp curriculum
Manage the Junior Camp Leader program, in collaboration with the Specialist and Coordinator
Establish and maintain excellent cross-departmental communication (Visitor Experience, Experiential Learning, Building Engineering, Facility Rentals) to ensure that camp logistics run smoothly and in harmony with other building activities
Establish and maintain excellent communication with camp families to ensure accurate record-keeping and positive behaviour management conversations
Manage the day-to-day operations of camps onsite at Science World, supporting the work of the Specialist, Coordinator and camp leaders (for example: to ensure supervision ratios, troubleshoot programming issues, solve logistical and behavioural challenges and answer queries from camper families)
Monitor program budget and materials; contribute to yearly operational planning and budgeting
Operate within the philosophy, culture and values of Science World
Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role
Qualifications
A degree in Education or a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience
Proven experience working with Science World's target audience in an informal educational environment
Experience with leading camp-based programs
Experience recruiting, training, supervising and scheduling a program delivery team
Excellent communication skills and research skills, including presentations to groups of varied audience (adults, youth and children)
Strong collaboration and teamwork skills are essential
Demonstrated dependability, reliability and flexibility, capable of working independently and as part of a team
Strong problem solving, organizational and time management skills
Must be able to lift 12 kg safely
Our Science Camp programs run year-round for elementary school-aged students.The Experiential Learning Manager, Science Camps must therefore be available to work Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm for the entire duration of every camp training/delivery/wrap period*, which primarily fall during school holidays. Weekend and evening work may also be required to support program activities.
The pay range for this position is $67,000 - $70,000 per year.
