The Job - Drywaller/Painter

Drywallers at On Side are important team members who, help rebuild and restore damaged personal and commercial property, anywhere and anytime disaster strikes. Delighting clients by making damaged drywall disappear, and new drywall appear in the form of smooth walls and appropriately textured ceilings, drywallers make clients believe magic has happened.

Painters add colour to clients dreams with fresh, clean surfaces in the perfect shade.

What you bring as a Drywaller/Painter

5 years previous experience doing drywall repairs and painting Previous experience reading and executing work orders Experience working in construction environments with own tools and the skills to use them Texturing skills Strong people and communication skills Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do Physically fit: able to do heavy lifting (moving materials) and long periods of kneeling/bending/crouching/reaching Ability to work independently or in a team A safety mindset Valid driver's licence and a clean criminal record (we do check) Ability to communicate in English

What you're responsible for...

A drywaller is skilled in the following ways:

Measuring, cutting and installing drywall sheets Tear out old or damaged drywall Ceiling texture, including knockdown Cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners Fill joints, nail indentations, holes and cracks using trowel and broad knife Tape and embed joints Texturing of all types Site preparation and protection

A painter is skilled in the following ways:

Estimate the quantity of materials required by measuring surfaces, reviewing scopes, sketches and work orders Remove old coatings by stripping with solvents, heat, sanding, wire brushing, or water and abrasive blasting Prepare surfaces for covering by cleaning, filling nail holes and cracks, and sanding rough spots Apply an undercoat primer or sealer before painting, or apply sizing before wallpapering Match specified colours by using premixed paints, or mixing colour and thinning and drying additives Use brushes, rollers or spray guns to apply liquid coatings such as paint, stain or varnish to surfaces of wood, metal, brick, concrete, plaster, stucco or stone Apply finishes that are sponged, ragged and layered Apply paper, vinyl or natural and synthetic fabric wallcoverings

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

Application question(s):

Restoration work requires documentation and tracking throughout your workday. Are you comfortable operating a phone to navigate through applications and record info as required? Nice to have: carpentry experience and the ability to assist with finish work on site. Please speak to your in-home carpentry skill set / experience. Attitude is key! Are you ambitious? Are you easy to get along with and treat others with respect? Are you a good listener and communicator? Do you want to genuinely help co-workers and clients and people in general? Please explain. Restoration work is different from Renovation work. Restoration is quick and detailed, there are timelines to meet because other trade work depends on everyone completing their portion of the job. Restoration deals with homes that have had flood/fire/other damage. Please describe the experience you have with Restoration if it is not obvious on your resume. Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (Responding to emergency calls after business hours)? This is additional to scheduled daytime hours. This position requires versatility. Do you have the experience and knowledge to assess the drywall repair needs, cut and repair the wall, paint the area you repaired, and help out other teams if you had the time? Do you have your own tools for the drywalling and painting jobs? Materials are supplied. Please describe your experience with texturing/ texture spraying, knockdown, orange peel and popcorn: be detailed as this will make a difference. Are you proficient with hanging, taping, mudding, sanding and finishing? Please describe in detail as this will make a difference.
Experience:

Spray Gun: 1 year (preferred) Drywalling and Drywall Repair: 5 years (preferred) Brush and Roller Painting: 3 years (preferred) Texture Spraying: 3 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
