:

The

Exercise Therapist

functions as a Case Manager for a designated group of program participants and as a liaison between the participant and their primary care physician and other health care providers. The Exercise Therapist is responsible for individual client assessments, intake assessments, development of individualized exercise prescriptions, ongoing monitoring and supporting changes within the treatment plan as indicated. The Exercise Therapist works in conjunction with the medical advisor, coordinator and other team members. They will assist in the development, coordination and delivery of participant and family education, and provide motivational support to participants and families regarding long-term health behaviour modification. The Exercise Therapist is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of evidence-based cardiovascular rehabilitation projects, as required.


Education:




BSc Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field from a recognized university, with successful completion of cardiac physiology, exercise physiology electives and cardiovascular rehabilitation elective - required Current registration in good standing with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (COKO)- required Current BLS - required Current Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), Certified Exercise Physiologist and/or American College of Sports Medicine (ASCM), Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist- preferred Member of Canadian Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation - preferred Member of Cardiac Rehabilitation Network of Ontario - preferred Adult Education Courses an asset

Experience:




Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in cardiovascular rehabilitation - preferred Classroom adult teaching experience is an asset

Competencies:




Working knowledge of cardiovascular and exercise physiology, knowledge of basic ECG interpretation as noted on a stress test report, cardiovascular medications and the principles of behaviour modification Strong patient assessment skills and program planning experience Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with others and strong interpersonal skills Must be able to calm dissatisfied customers and work closely with others in a team setting Demonstrated problem-solving ability, critical thinking and organizational skills Requires the ability to understand oral instructions A commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service
