Your Opportunity:The primary role of the Exercise Specialist is to deliver exercise assessment, training, rehabilitation, risk factor identification, and self-management services to individual patients with a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. This position requires communication and planning with specific interdisciplinary services across a number of sites and sectors to effectively coordinate care. Reporting to the Program Manager at the Northern Alberta Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, the Exercise Specialist facilitates improvements within a multidisciplinary team using a patient/family-centered model of practice. The Exercise Specialist delivers ongoing patient education (in the form of individual, small or large classroom settings) to patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals as part of the rehabilitation plan. This individual is also competent in exercise related consulting for research, public health, and other internal and external services and programming related to the patient journey. Exercise Specialists are required to maintain current knowledge of evidence-based practice in exercise physiology as it relates to surgery, cardiology, exercise equipment, community exercise, and behavioral psychology. Essential to the Exercise Specialists role is the demonstrated ability to use motivational interviewing, self-management, and goal setting strategy, and respond positively to an innovative working environment. The responsibilities and functions of the Exercise Specialist are performed at a high level of independence. You will facilitate improvements using a patient-and family-centred model of practice where you will deliver ongoing patient education (in the form of individual, small or large classroom settings) to patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals as part of the rehabilitation plan. You will be involved with program delivery and client care, program planning, program promotion, and program evaluation.

Required Qualifications:Completion of bachelor\'s degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, or equivalent exercise science degree. Active membership with the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology, and Clinical Exercise Physiologist and/or American College of Sport Medicine, Exercise Specialist and/or; Active or eligible for membership with the Alberta Kinesiology Association or Canadian Kinesiology Association as applicable. Additional Required Qualifications:Two years previous exercise experience in the health field. American College of Sport Medicine, Exercise Specialist and/or Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology Certification required within one year of hire. Proficient with Microsoft Office and Intranet. Knowledge and understanding of Adult Learning Principles. Demonstrated initiative, adaptability and flexibility to meet varying clinical and operational needs. Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Must be physically able to perform CPR. Preferred Qualifications:Advanced skills in ECG interpretation. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision. Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation membership. Experience teaching large patient/family groups. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to practice in a patient/family centered environment.
