The Executive Protection Officer (EPO) is the Protective Services (PS) representative of Scotiabank within the C-suite environment, conducting executive protection procedures and responding immediately in case of a security incident. In addition, the EPO will assist in developing and executing risk mitigation plans to support executive travel and events with Executive level involvement. The EPO will also support the PS response to security incidents worldwide, including incidents of terrorism, civil unrest, and natural disaster or criminal attack against the Bank, which affects staff, customers, assets or facilities, to limit the loss and mitigate risk. They will also contribute to the overall success of Corporate Security in Canada by ensuring security plans are executed in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. In addition, ensuring all activities comply with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities:

  • Executive Protection:
  • Plan and execute protective detail operations domestically and internationally.
  • Conduct and enforce established executive protection procedures, and initiate the response of other staff as required.
  • C-Level special events often require detailed planning and site visits to determine staffing requirements and evacuation routes for emergencies.
  • Coordinates with other private security departments, law enforcement agencies, and event coordinators to ensure a safe and secure event site(s).
  • Supports business continuity planning measures in the event of an incident that requires the evacuation of executive locations or the extraction of specific executives.
  • Assist in the conduct of threat and risk assessments of executive residences, travel plans or other activities, making relevant and practical recommendations, and safeguarding and maintaining highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Additional duties may be assigned, and functions may be modified according to business necessity
  • Access Control:
  • Ensure that access control standards and policies are followed through monitoring and controlling physical access to various locations Senior Executives utilize to ensure a safe and secure environment for the executives to conduct business.
  • Global Physical Risk Assessment:
  • Support the conduct of physical security risk assessments of Executive residences, facilities and events used by or involving the executives, and assist in the provision of recommendations to the approving authority for such assessments.
  • Assist PS staff in supporting other business line initiatives by providing physical security subject matter expertise and risk assessments.
  • Global Incident Management and Response:
  • Support the PS response to security incidents worldwide, including terrorism, civil unrest, and natural disaster or criminal attack against the Bank, which affects staff, customers, assets or facilities, to limit the loss and mitigate risk.
  • Support the Security Operations Centre (SOC) in the execution of the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) by assuming the role of monitoring High Value / High Risk (HV/HR) facilities during the initial transition period.
  • Participate in relevant after-action reviews post-incident, providing meaningful inputs into the process.
  • Training and Awareness/Crime Prevention Programs:
  • Participate in ongoing training for Executive Protection Officers and others involved with incident management/response on the Executive floors.
  • Support the delivery of physical security training and awareness programs under the direction and supervision of the Senior Manager, Executive Protection.
  • Reporting:
  • With minimal support, write concise, timely reports regarding incidents to inform key stakeholders.
  • Deliver both verbal and written critical incident and summary reports to disseminate information. The accuracy and thoroughness of this reporting will be relied upon by PS to make critical decisions and by other Bank departments to initiate and support their response to emergencies.
  • Support other PS Functions:
  • Support other PS functions and projects on an as-needed basis by supporting GPS Operational Support team.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and culture are incorporated into day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations concerning operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years of private security, private investigative, police, military, paramedic, fire safety, or related experience.
  • Minimum 1 year Executive Protection experience, Industry recognized Executive Protection training.
  • Possession of Ontario Security Guard License or ability/willingness to obtain a license is mandatory.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and clean driving record is mandatory.
  • Possession of valid passport and a clean criminal record is required.
  • First Aid training, Use of Force training, and other security and incident response related qualifications are required.
  • High degree of fluency in English required; French/Spanish desirable.
