Do you love breaking news? Are you a leader and mentor? We are looking for a creative, dynamic person to lead our news and current affair team as the Executive Producer of News for NWT, based in Yellowknife.You will provide hands-on editorial direction to the news and current affairs staff and oversee the journalism on web, radio and TV (a supper-hour TV show, morning, noon and PM radio shows, 6 Indigenous language shows, a weekend radio show, and a pan-northern web page). You will also lead the establishment of a new local all-day TV service in the Territory.You will ensure CBC North is setting the agenda through our original and enterprise journalism.You put audience needs at the centre of your decision-making. You understand the role of the public broadcaster in building a stronger local community and in building a stronger Canada.
You have a strong knowledge of reporting within Indigenous communities.You are a champion of creating an inclusive news and current affairs team, in your editorial choices and within your team.As the executive producer, you are the go-to person on journalistic policy, standards and judgment in our region.You think strategically. You can set direction and delegate effectively. But you aren\xe2\x80\x99t afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the hard work. You thrive on mentoring and coaching and developing journalists.You set standards and expectations for collaboration and sharing among teams and platforms to ensure our stories are available to the widest possible audience.
Work must adhere to CBC Journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices, and the Executive Producer must lead their staff or units to ensure that this occurs.You work with the rest of the leadership team, developing innovative forms of storytelling on all platforms. You will be expected to collaborate with the other CBC North stations, in Whitehorse and Iqaluit and the network newsroom, on major event coverage such as elections. You will also be involved in daily staffing and scheduling decisions and employee feedback.The successful candidate demonstrates a high level of creative thinking, the ability to originate and develop innovative programs, and/or production concepts, as well as the ability to make immediate decisions in complex and stressful environments.Key responsibilities:
