The Yellowknife Women's Society (YKWS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the social, cultural, and economic well-being of individuals and families in the North. We offer essential housing and support services that foster safety, empowerment, and healing.
The Role
The Executive Director (ED) is the chief leader of YKWS and reports to the Board of Directors. The ED is responsible for:
Leading the day-to-day management of all programs and services situated on multiple sites.
Implementing strategic plans approved by the Board.
Overseeing finances, fundraising, and proposal development.
Building and maintaining partnerships locally, territorially, nationally, and internationally.
Supporting staff through recruitment, supervision, and professional development.
Ensuring programs are delivered in a culturally safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed way.
Ensure compliance with federal, territorial, and municipal funding agreements, including reporting requirements, timelines, and performance obligations.
The Executive Director leads with both compassion and accountability, ensuring clear expectations, performance standards, and responsible stewardship of resources. They provide leadership in strengthening post-eviction pathways, housing navigation, and systems advocacy to support women and families in achieving long-term housing stability.

Qualifications
Post-secondary degree in Indigenous Studies, Public Health, Social Work, Community Development, Public Administration, Leadership, or a related field.
An equivalent combination of education and extensive senior leadership experience may be considered at the discretion of the Board.
Minimum 5 years' leadership experience working with multi-stressed families, housing, or social service organizations.
Demonstrated experience working with First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities.
Strong financial management, fundraising, and organizational development skills.
Excellent communication, advocacy, and crisis management skills.
